QUESTION: If a word is included in the TITLE, does it still need to be tagged? Like for example, "Crystal Earrings" in the title. Do I still need to add "crystal" as a tag? I have always wondered this!
Sarah, have you tried searching for items similar to yours from the home page? You can get an idea if your terms are being searched by typing them in the search bar...you'll get a drop down menu of recently searched terms as your words begin to form.
I tweak my tags and titles a lot, especially on items that get few hits.
Mine was "lotus flower", then I sold the pendant, and I get less views now :-( Guess I need to make another lotus flower...but gosh, the first one was hard...
Not that its my MOST searched term, but many of my bookmarks have tassels... The other day I saw someone had found my page by typing in "tassels - nipple" into the search bar.
LOL! I don't think they found what they were looking for in my store!
OP, be careful with that tag. "gift" is not really supposed to be used as a tag on Etsy. See this under Dos and Donts:
You should only state what the item is, not what the item may become or potential uses for the item (for example: yarn should not be labeled as "sweater," beads should not be labeled as "bracelet," small gift items should not be labeled as "stocking stuffer"

Oh yes! You should also try to include it at the beginning of your description. Keyword phrases are better than single words. Tonight I revised the title and tags on my crystal earrings.
The first three words of my title are Crystal Drop Earrings My description starts with "Crystal drop earrings are made with..." One of my tags is "crystal drop earrings."
My earrings are now on the first page of results (out of almost 18,000 items) when those keywords are used in a relevancy search. I wasn't expecting that good of results so I was pretty stoked when I saw it. :)
