Changing my shop name?

Hi all,

I've been considering changing the name of my shop and was wondering if any of you might have some advice/opinions on it.

First a little background: in my shop, currently called Ballerina Rose Designs, I sell printable stationary - so invitations, announcements, party extras, thank you notes, etc. I also have a couple of wedding website listings that match some of the wedding stationary designs. I chose the name Ballerina Rose Designs because it was personal to me (I've been a ballerina for years and Rose is my middle name) and I didn't want to be too limiting. Now, a little over a year into opening my shop, I'm wondering if it's too vague and whether a different, more targeted shop name would serve me better in terms of future growth.

Would a name like say, Paper Bliss, serve me better moving forward since 99% of my items are paper printables? I feel like that's a little generic for a name, but in thinking of advertising on blogs and connecting on social media, I would think it more readily associates with what I sell--printable stationary.

Basically, I'm asking what your opinion is of my current shop name, Ballerina Rose Designs, versus a new name like Paper Bliss. (And I realize that shop name may not be available. Just using it as an example for now. It would be something similar.) Or do you think it even matters? Does anyone have experience in changing your shop name?

Thanks so much in advance!
Ashley

Re: Changing my shop name?

To be honest, I think Ballerina Rose is more memorable than something generic like Paper Bliss. If you google Paper Bliss it comes up with the brand name of scrapbook embellishments, Etsy shops, Pinterest boards, etc.

If you're set on changing your name it's an easy process. Etsy will automatically redirect any existing links to your new shop name. If someone searches your old shop name on Etsy it'll redirect as well. Keep in mind that Etsy will only allow you to change your shop name once so make sure it's something you love.

I actually really like your current name. I think you should put a little bit about why the name in your shop's "about" section. It would add to the brand and would be a nice background.

I think your name stands out more the way it is! So many other seller who sell some of the same type stuff will be using the word paper or something similar designed to target the items they sell, but you stand out because it's different, and I think it flows....my opinion, but I would say that because I sell vintage jewelry, and my shop name is Calico Candy's, so.....

I like your current name, too! It's intriguing and personal and lovely. Stick with it, in my opinion! I mean... Franny & Franky doesn't really scream "art prints" but there's a personal story behind it, so I love it :)

Re: Changing my shop name?

You have had over 300 sales and I would think your repeat customers would be looking for the Ballerina Rose shop name. I think its best to keep your shop name. its lovely and it really is a unique name.

I tried so many shop names also before I opened my shop and I kept going back to the name I gave my shop in the beginning. My lovely husband chose my shop name. and I Love it.

Good luck. its your call really.

Re: Changing my shop name?

Me personally would prefer Paper Bliss, but as said above by Dawnel, You already have returning customers who would be looking for Your shop, and Your name seems to be working, so that's also something to consider...

Re: Changing my shop name?

Hi! Well, I have to say, I changed my shop name right when my store started getting really busy as I was once 'The Pink Boa'. Once I realized I wasn't just gearing towards the girly items I first started out designing I wanted to make sure I changed my name before things got too big and I couldn't have little boys walking around with clothing that said 'The Pink Boa' on them. Anyway, after changing your name- Etsy redirects everyone to your page and so do your Pinterest links (though I updated those in a very slow process) and I have to say- changing my shop name was the best thing I ever did. I kind of feel like The Pink Boa was kind of corny and something I chose because of this 'thing' us girls have in the family that we always bring each other a Pink Boa to the hospital when one of us has a girl. Liv & Co. sounded much more sophisticated to me and a name that I could pass down should my children want to take over my business. After I changed my name business only got better and views only went up. I've also chatted in several forums and you can google it and certain Etsy forums will come up where I haven't seen a single person that has changed their name, regret it. That is just my $0.02. I'd do it now or not at all. You don't want to get too big and then do it. Etsy also lets your old customers know that your name has changed and I actually went through my 'sold' list and personally emailed all of my previous customers with a coupon code welcoming them to Liv & Co. Best of luck to you and happy selling!
