Can someone help me with this?

I'm wanting to make jewelry with hemp cord, but not like a woven bracelet; I'm wanting the cord to be free flowing. Does anyone know how to prevent the cord from fraying badly? I use a wax called thread heaven. It does ok, but it still seems to fray somewhat, and I don't want to put something that looks like bad quality in my shop.

Also do you know how to take care of hemp cord for future wear? I want to tell ppl what to do to keep it looking good and what not to do.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Can someone help me with this?

How have you been taking care of your hemp cord in the past?

I'd suggest that you do some experimentation to see what works best for you.

When I'm working with hemp I'll use a fray check on it, depending on the application. So far it works for my use.

I've only used that wax on it. I never used anything else. If it starts looking bad again, I just put more wax on it. It only does so well for so long, though.
Do you wash the hemp off after using fray check? That sounds like a good idea..it doesn't irritate your skin does it?

Re: Can someone help me with this?

No, I don't wash the hemp after finishing the item. It doesn't irritate my skin at all.

I don't use any wax at all on any of my hemp products simply because it would wash out with the first cleaning.

I don't have any experience working with hemp, but I googled 'how to care for hemp rope' and found some interesting stuff you might understand more than me.

heres the link

Thanks crochetgal : ) I think I'm going to try using fray check. So do you apply it with a paint brush or just use it from the bottle?

Thanks Casi; That information seems pretty helpful : )
