Can I have a web site besides etsy?

I'm thinking of starting a web page with godaddy.com
Is there a conflict of interest to have a web page and shop on Etsy?

Nope. You can even link to your website on your about page =)

...ETA: Nope as in no conflict of interest...you can have an outside website. many many many people do.

I don't think so, as long as you aren't promoting the other shop on this site, I think it would be fine. just make sure you are keeping up with what is selling so the same thing doesn't sell twice! For me, it would be too complicated to have 2 shops running!

Yes, of course! You just can't link to your other shop here on Etsy so that people leave Etsy to go buy on your website. That is against Etsy's TOU's.

So from what I understand in the TOUs, you can link to your shop's website:

"What links can I add to my shop's "About" page?
You can add up to three links to your shop's About page. These can include any combination of the following:
- Facebook pages
- Twitter accounts
- Shop blogs
- Shop websites
Please keep in mind our policies regarding off-site linking when adding links to this page. You can review these policies in our DOs and DON'Ts."

But you can't link to make the sale off etsy since it constitutes fee-avoidance:

"You may not use Etsy to direct shoppers to another online selling venue to purchase the same items as listed in your Etsy shop, as this may constitute fee avoidance. This includes posting links/URLs or providing information sufficient to locate the other online venue(s).

An Etsy account may not be used for the purpose of redirecting traffic to another web location. This includes shops in Vacation Mode."

But it's okay then to have other items (not on etsy) available for sale on your linked website? And it's okay to put a link to your blog in your profile?

Let me see if I understand this. I can have a link from etsy to a website of mine but it can't have the same items for sale.
If the website was just ,more of a gallery , no sales ,then no problems with a link from etsy.

Cheryl that is not exact right. If you can have the same type of spider designs on your web site and you can also sell them there. But on Etsy you can not try to get people to buy from your web site instead of from your Etsy shop - that would be consider fee avoidance.

What Katherine says is right, you can sell the exact same things and list your website on etsy, just don't put the website link in your listings with something that says 'don't buy this on etsy, come to my website and buy it' that's fee avoidance.

Ok, so does that mean you can link your shop with the same items, but it can only be on the About page in the link portion? I'm sorry, just confused. Are any links to other websites (like your blog or tumblr for example) acceptable to put in the profile area or shop announcement?

I think there has been a misunderstanding.

You can post a link to your facebook/blog/twitter/website on you about page.
You may not post a link to another location on a listing directing traffic to another page because it would constitute fee avoidance.

You may post a link on your about page, and you can sell the same items on both etsy and your website/other page. You just can't tell potential customers to go to a different website to purchase your items because it is in violation of Etsy's TOU.

Secret Beast - I believe the only location to promote a page off etsy is on the about page. Though I have seen a few shops with links in the shop announcement, I'm not sure that this is approved by etsy.

I actually have Etsy Mini linked up on one of my pages on my personal website. It's a good way to show your items, but the links go directly to your etsy shop. It also updates automatically, which is a bonus!

I have my own envelopespot site, ebay, and etsy. On my website I have link back to etsy and ebay.

Customers buy on the one they feel most comfortable with. I give them the choice.

This states it here. You can't post another web page on Etsy to direct traffic to your to another web page non- Etsy related. They will close your shop
