Camera question

It's been rumored I'm getting a better digital camera for Christmas and while we certainly can't afford an expensive one - what are some suggestions for good (for the price) cameras. Nothing over 500.00 please lol

Currently I've been using our little cheapy CoolPix and photoxhop but the close ups could be better.

Suggestions? Comments on kinds. Thank you much!

Re: Camera question

Do a little homework before you make any decisions. Here's a good start:

I have a Cannon Power Shot SD870 IS and just love it!! It is 3 years old and was $350 then at Best Buy. My son works there as a supervisor for the Geek Squad and he said it was perfect for me and my business. But do shop around and get what works best for you.

Re: Camera question

I recently purchased my 1st DSLR, a Canon Rebel XS. I did a lot of research & the Rebel had rave reviews & seemed like a great beginner camera. Plus we had a Canon P&S so I am familaiar with their brand.

I checked everywhere for the best price for almost 2 months & ended up buying from Crutchfield & purchased a warranty through Square Trade.

I Love my camera! Really, having it has taught me a lot about photography. I knew nothing & really had no interest in photography. But having this camera makes taking pictures fun. I'm already wanting to get a macro lens or some other kind of toy for it.

There are lots of good cameras out there for under $500. Have a good look around before you make a decision. Good luck!
