Calculated shipping always over charging for multiple item orders

Hey everyone!

So I have only been up and running for about 3 months now and I haven't quite figured out this calculated shipping when it comes to a customer ordering more than one item.

Every time I have a multiple item sale the calculated shipping over charges my customers like crazy.

I have all my items set with calculated shipping and I put in the weight/size of each packaged item.

All of my items tend to be rather large and heavy.

So when I re-package them to be shipped all in one box I often times cut the calculated shipping cost down TO HALF! It's insane!

I also know I would be getting more sales if this wasn't the case and I would love to be able to fix it.

I have all my larger sized boxes listed in hopes the calculated shipping will place the items together but what happens is that it still charges as though they're all seperate!

HELP!

I can't find any good articles online to help me with this and I feel like i'm obviously missing a small step in this process.

I'd love to hear some advice on how to fix this so I can stop refunding every multiple item order.

I have never used calculated shipping. And my items are very small. So I can't help you with calculated shipping. I have heard complaints before about overcharging on this feature. High shipping charges will probably deter buyers!

Unfortunately, you aren't missing anything.

No matter what, it'll still charge the shipping separately. It's the one downfall of calculated shipping.

Hi Rachel,

I had similar problems with calculated shipping and contacted Etsy admin to help sort through it. I had to put the maximum amount of items in my envelopes which increased the dimensions to figure it out. I realize for boxes this method may not work, so you may want to contact Etsy help and see what they suggest. Best of luck!

We use shipping profiles as most of our items fall within those ranges and we still refund shipping overages for buyers purchasing large quantities. We are usually within the right charge at 3 or less items and have to refund at 4 or more items purchased in the same transaction. Not very helpful, but I don't know that shipping options with the current rates will work for most multi item purchases.

Ah thank you all for the help! Looks like I will just leave the "If you're ordering multiple items please contact me" in my "about" section!

It will deter customers but people do read it and contact...

I had a similar problem until I made the larger package size way way way bigger than it actually is (but still not large enough to trigger an extra cost from the USPS). Then Etsy seemed to realize it could fit lots of smaller packages in there and did combine the shipping correctly.
