Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

My daughter bought me several items off my favorites list for my birthday this year (because she is a sweetheart who loves her mom :-)

In each case, she wrote a note to the seller during checkout, saying that the purchase was a gift and asked if they offered gift wrap or a card.

In each case, but one, the sellers ignored the note and enclosed the printed receipt in with the item when they sent it. I got the item, without wrapping or a card, with the receipt with the price, which included her note that they had ignored.

The only seller that actually reacted to the note was, http://www.etsy.com/shop/girlgeekboutique. She wrapped up my necklace in tissue and a tulle pouch and even enclosed a card, wishing me a happy birthday. Please go check out her shop today. She understands customer service.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

Oh no!!! That's awful!!! I absolutely look at the buyer's notes, they're one of the first things that appears on the invoice, how could you miss them?

However, some of my products actually require customer's to choose sizes and colors and let me know in the note section, so maybe I'm just used to looking for them. But still, what's the point if no one reads them???

Wow!

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I always read the Buyer's notes. That's just common sense! Although, I'm not nearly as busy as some of these other sellers. But still, consideration of your buyer's requests is what sets you apart. How could you not read them??

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I ALWAYS look at buyer notes. But in 1100 sales RARELY do buyers read Seller notes. Even after printing the shipping timeline in my policies, shop announcement AND in the seller notes.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I always look for notes from buyers as they often need to choose sizes, patterns or colors for the items they order. Customer service is so important and poor attention to detail is the downfall of a lot of shops.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I absolutely read each of my buyers' notes. Sometimes they need different stone or size to be custom adjusted, so it is very important I send them the right jewelry. However, if they request gift wrapping with tissue, pouch, gift box or something like that, depending on the total of the order, I might charge what they cost if I didn't say I would ship the item that way in the listings.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

Wow, that's really sad. I actually feel kinda let down when there's not a buyers note, lol. I like when the customer is as excited about the item as I am (even though I don't make my items..I'm just that nerdy about vintage).
My first customer asked in the buyer's note if I could include a little note with the item because he was sending it to his sister for her birthday. I was pretty excited to have a reason to use my pretty stationary, lol. It's the simple things in life, right?

But yeah, I hereby vow to never let myself get so caught up in sales that I don't even take the time to look at the buyer's note.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

My best buyer note ever was from a lady who wanted a zombie bag for her daughter-in-law.

So, I'm trying to picture this in my head, and all I can think of, is that this woman is making some reference about her DIL being one of the undead who is eating her son's brains. So I write back, "Would you like me to send this directly to her ...anonymously?"

But no, she said that she really loves her DiL and knows that the DiL loves zombies. So, okay then!

I've written special birthday notes for several buyers. It's not that hard. . .

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

Birthday notes upon request are a super nice touch. It doesn't need to be fancy if you don't have anything on hand a post it note will do in a pinch. So far I haven't used a post it note. But something is better than ignoring a simple request.

I do read the buyer notes. I have had a couple of "this is going to be sent directly to the person as a gift please don't include invoice" notes but then they don't say whether or not they want a note inside the gift. So I ask before shipping and hope they reply quickly.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I always read the buyer's notes! I also make a note in my shop policies that I can wrap items as a gift and to let me know in the message to seller box if its a gift and where it should be sent. Maybe some of those shops don't offer gift wrapping?

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

That is sad and not customer oriented at all! Thank fully there are many of us who do care enough to read the notes. That is so important for the purchase as well as for our shops and Etsy as well. Happy Birthday! What a wondefrul daughter. I will check out the shop you noted. that is so kind of you to it credit!

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I certainly would read them. I believe the more you pay attention to your customer, the more satisfied he/she will be with the item they receive. Happy Birthday to you, Artsi Bitsi!

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I always look for them, while most buyers don't seem to leave a note, you may miss something very important (like your birthday request) if you don't look for them.

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

Can't believe that a seller would just ignore a buyer's note. Ignoring a customer's note is just bad business.

I just had 2 orders today, both of them are for birthday gifts. One has requested that I write a note, which I'm excited about!

Re: Buyer Notes - Do you read them?

I have quite a few listings where I ask that the buyers specify in the 'note to seller' if they'd like the chain length adjusted, or earwires replaced, so for me it'd be plain silly not to read them.

I do think it's very important to do, even if everyone makes mistakes once in a while. And I also think that your daughter sounds lovely! :)

Wow, that's awful customer service with the exception of the one!
I always make sure to check buyer's notes. How could you not?
They could be really important or a simple thank you that will make your day.
