Boring stuff in the back?

In my shop, some of my items are downright boring--unless you need it and thought you'd never be able to find it. I have stuff like replacement blades for a vintage blender, a cord for a coffee percolator.

Right now I've been rearranging my shop so those boring items are on the back pages, since a buyer is more likely to find them through Google than through Etsy search. Is this an appropriate strategy, or should I intersperse them in other pages so all browsers will know I carry things like this? Any opinions?

I would say the back of the shop!

Re: Boring stuff in the back?

I would be careful with putting stuff all the way in the back. When you click on a listing thumbnail and go to the actual listing with the description, on the right there is a "more from this shop" feature with a couple pictures. If you click the left one, it will take you to your very last page and oldest listing. Sometimes I wonder why I'm getting views for my newest items as well as my oldest items, and it's because when people click on my newest listing, they see "more from this shop" with an older listing pictured. Does this make sense? I would say not all the way in the back, but maybe 10 listings from the last.

On second thought, I could be wrong. I don't know if rearranging your shop front also rearranges how your items are arranged when you click through listings in the "more from this shop" feature.

Re: Boring stuff in the back?

@AlmondCrafts: I always wondered how Etsy came up with the stuff they show in "more items from this shop." It would be nice if they'd show related items.

I checked it out, and the left photo is the oldest listing, not the last listing on the last page. Thanks for giving me a heads-up to watch for this.

Re: Boring stuff in the back?

I rearranged my shop a few weeks ago, and I really like it now. Go take a look, and see if you agree.

I alternated rows of knitted clothing with rows of catnip toys, and then rows of home decor items, and then I have all the supplies and yarn destash at the end, where it doesn't get in the way of the handmade items.

Left alone to display by listing date, it was such a hodgepodge.

Just wish I had more time to add more items!

Re: Boring stuff in the back?

I know I keep my boring-ish stuff in the back - if only b/c I'm tired of looking at it! I figure putting the neater stuff up front makes sense. And if the front's taken up with more exciting things, well, the only place that's left is the back!
