Blogspot / Facebook help needed

I have a Facebook like button for my blog,

adventuresinthriftland.blogspot.com/

I've just "liked" it myself and was bothered by the little blurb about the blog that showed on my Facebook wall. I don't think I wrote the exact text that is showing up (if I did, I can't find it anywhere on my blog profile), and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to change what shows up when someone likes it. I'd like it to say something more compelling than is currently displayed.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Do you mean your Facebook box? It showed up for me for a moment and now it only shows your icon and your fan number. I think it was what you actually posted on your Facebook.

You can change your FB blurb setup to be a box or a little like button with numbers (within Facebook).

Re: Blogspot / Facebook help needed

Phanie,

I'm actually referring to what shows up on my own personal Facebook wall when I click the "like" button after each post. That "like" button is actually a "like" for the whole blog, not a specific post, and when I liked it myself and looked on my personal Facebook page (not on my business page), I was pretty disappointed to see what the blog description was. Now that I know what likers' friends see, I'd really rather rephrase it to something more interesting. No idea how, though, or even if I can!

Maybe it's using your blogger "description"? If so, seems like you can change that like this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/blogger/thread?tid=407dbce12d3e2b44&hl=en

Re: Blogspot / Facebook help needed

Did you add meta tags to your blog? I just took a look at the source code for your home page, and there's a section called "meta-content" that contains the same words that are showing up in my facebook description for your blog, so I'm thinking if you added meta tags to the blog, facebook is pulling its 'description' from those.

If that's what it is, maybe you could artfully re-arrange the tags to keep them relevant, but easier to read when they're used as a description?

Here's a post I found with some other hacks to deal with this problem: http://www.bloggersentral.com/2010/11/facebook-share-shows-wrong-description.html

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Kat! I'm going to check out the meta tags. The description I'm seeing is pretty unappealing looking. Almost ANYTHING would be better!

Re: Blogspot / Facebook help needed

I tried to do it, but after fussing with it a while, I think it is just too technical for me to figure out. My brain is sore now! It's too bad there's not some easy way to do this for people who aren't very clued in about how this sort of thing works. Arrrgh! I'm working hard to try to get good content on my blog, so this is frustrating. Thanks so much for looking that up. I'm going to mark this thread in case I find a knowledgeable friend able to do it for me.
