Blogging Help!

Ok, I really want to start blogging...seems to be the thing to do and every marketing podcast I listen to tells me I should :D
I know there are a bunch of bloggers here on etsy so I thought what better place to come for some advice
But what platform should I use? I know there have been other threads through out the forums asking this same question and blogger, tumblr and wordpress seems to biggest suggestions. Of those I like blogger..seems easiest for a novice like me. But I have a website, thats kind of just a central hub for my business at this timel. It just has a link to my etsy shop and my facebook, some product pics...its definatly at this point just a work in progress as i move along and learn...but my question is this...the site I'm using for my web hosting/building I can add a blog page to my site with an rss feed or whatever its called on there and everything. Should I just use that instead of blogger etc? Is it easier to find followers if you are on a blogging site like blogger or does it not matter?

Re: Blogging Help!

You have to have a blog somewhere to add an RSS feed to your main site. Or does it just allow you to blog on your own site you currently have set up?

You can very easily start a blog on blogger and then link it to your own domain. Say you own www.kreations.com you can make your blog url blog.kreations.com and link the two sites together and change the theme of the blog to match your website. I use http://www.soapdelinews.com for my blog and it matches my main site soapdelicatessen.com - it's hosted on blogger.

Re: Blogging Help!

i actually JUST started a blog yesterday. I am using Blogger since it seems pretty user friendly. I am thinking that you should just blog on your existing website because then its just like a central hub for your business. I don't know if there are any advantages really to using Blogger instead though in terms of a "community" that you could network with or whatever.

Maybe one of our more experienced bloggers on the team can chime in and let us know what they think! :)

Re: Blogging Help!

I use blogger, it's pretty easy. I'm not sure but I would think doing a separate blog and linking it to your website would be better than just writing it on your website because it provides another way for people to find you. You want to use more than one type of platform to get your name out in order to reach as many people as possible.

Re: Blogging Help!

The added benefit of blogger (or whatever blogging site you chose) is that it's easier for other bloggers to find and follow you.

Re: Blogging Help!

thanks for the replies :)
@soapdeli:
I can addit right to my website without having to add anything. It has an RSS feed built into it I guess. I had added it early in the month and then disbaled it. and then I signed up for blogger...and tumblr...and wordpress...and then ended up not using anything :p
So last night I started playing around with blogger.
But I was thinking if I can get people to follow my blog on my site then i dont have to try to get them to click through the blog to my site becasue they will already be there...does that make sense?
Here is my blog as it appears on my site.

I guess if being on blogger doesnt help with actually getting followers as in a "blogging community" type thing than maybe its just easier to have it on my site.
The best way to get followers? I'm guessing findingother blogs i'm interested in and following them and psoting in the forums and on different social media sites and just growing my community in general?
I really really really want to get my business booming so I can eventually quit my night job. Working overnights is slowly killing me. But I think i've been searching for too much infor and have myself on info overload...which causes me to get confussed...which casues me to do nothing. Which is not productive. sorry rambling :p

Re: Blogging Help!

I'm not too thrilled with Blogger but it's what everyone here seems to use. I can't figure out how to add my own backgrounds or even how to read the people I'm following without going over to Google Reader.

Besides Blogger, I use WordPress, MySpace, and Tumblr. WordPress is my favorite, but no one here uses it.

Re: Blogging Help!

I added my own background, I think there is an advanced option you have to go to if I remember correctly. You should have a feed at the bottom of your control panel that shows all the blogs you follow.

Re: Blogging Help!

Blogging is a lot of fun and definitely a great marketing tool. I use Typepad, as do a few other bloggers I know. You do have to pay, but I have had a really good experience with typepad and would recommend it. But I guess it depends on your budget and needs etc.
