Best way to get customer reviews

Hi all!
I've got a question hoping you can answer!
Thankfully I have many happy customers, however, not doing so well on getting reviews.
Any advise on how to make it easy for buyers to post a review would be appreciated!
If you want to check out my shop perhaps you can critique an make it easier for buyers to leave a review!
Freshrestorations.etsy.com
Thanks.
Audrey

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

Hi Audrey,
People don't always remember to leave feedback.
You could send a note after shipment informing customer about shipping details and kindly remind them that their feedback is vital for your shop

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

There is no way to increase the number of customers that leave a review.
Asking (or begging...) for them is considered tacky.
Imagine large companies bothering you for feedback after you received your purchase.
Remember that no news is good news.
Plus often when a customer wants to leave a review (s)he cannot, because Etsy cleverly decided that it isn't time yet...... (reviews cannot be given before a certain time frame has passed, a time frame that in my case is much longer than the time it takes for my package to arrive at the customer).

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

Hi Audrey, I've been reading about this today and just implemented a new feedback-strategy, lol. I've read that a follow up message "checking in" that the package was delivered safe and as expected is a nice personal touch. A few days after a package is delivered, I send this extra thank you along with a "p.s" that includes a promo code for a return purchase and instructions on how to leave feedback. I don't ask for it! ..Just tell them how :) Now just to wait and see if the plan works!

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I have returned with a report! My "strategy" I described above has already gotten me a review and several emails of thanks, one even stating that she "appreciated the personal touch" !! Success!

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I wouldn't worry too much about getting more feedback. I used to wonder this too in the beginning, but now I'm just happy to have all positive feedback--whether it's formal or just a casual message/photo they send me. I think prospective customers aren't looking at the number of reviews as much as the quality of that feedback. So far you're looking good:)

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

@ Lea, I wouldn't want a follow up email. To me, that is unsolicited and considered spam. I will let you know if there is a problem and will leave feedback as I see fit. In today's society we a re bombarded with email after email after email. I won't contribute to this. In fact, as I've already said, it's spamming IMHO

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I don't follow up with customers to try to get reviews, as I think it would be annoying to them. I just focus on what I can control - wrapping packages nicely, enclosing a thank you note, and prompt shipment. In fact, I think prompt shipment is often cited by my customers that do leave feedback.

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I like reviews/feedback as much as anyone else but I have learned to let it go if a buyer does not leave feedback.or a review. After a while, you will start selling so much, you will stop caring as much or trying so hard for a review.

I would feel very irritated if someone sent me a follow up email with a not-so-subtle message about feedback.

Buyers who want to leave feedback will find how and where to do this.

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

The time taken between making the purchase and being able to leave a review is to give the item the chance to arrive, and also for the item to be used. If it's faulty or poorly made, it might not be evident right away, and that's something that other customers would want to know about, ESPECIALLY if it's a frequent problem.
Yes, I'd like more feedback, too, but no news is good news - if there was a problem, they would let you know. You have to just hope that potential customers realise that.

Having said that, you also have to realise that people don't purchase just because of reviews. I've bought on Etsy COUNTLESS times and only ever looked at feedback first once, and that was because I was buying clothing and I'm very, very picky about it. I ended up buying, even though there were a few negatives. I read them, read the positives as well, saw a pattern in the negatives and decided it wasn't enough to put me off. I was very, very, very happy with the product I received, and made sure to leave feedback saying so, in part BECAUSE of the negatives.
Otherwise I've purchased...good gracious, I've purchased from over fifty sellers on Etsy and only read feedback first once. I don't even think about it. On Etsy, every product should be unique, and as a result people shouldn't have to compare one person's product to another unless they're trying to decide between two different things but can only have one.

We worry too much about feedback, and some foul buyers realise this and try to use it against us, threatening negative feedback if we don't do this, that and the other. At the end of the day we shouldn't be so hung up on it. As long as we do our best and maintain a high standard of service and product, we have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't ask people for feedback, though; that's one thing on Ebay I despise, and as a result (I realise how bad this is) I never do it. I hate "please leave me 5 star feedback!" slips in with my purchases.
However, I did have a clever way that actually worked. I designed some Mini Moo business cards that simply said 'penny for your thoughts' on one side, and the basic link to feedback on the other (etsy.com/feedback/awaiting - typing that in sends you straight to your purchases page even now) and I'd use double sided tape to stick a real penny on the front, too.

You can see them here: http://www.ablackbirdsepiphany.co.uk/2012/05/penny-for-your-thoughts-mini-moos.html
There used to be a free download link but it's expired, so I'm going to put the images on the blog for download more easily tomorrow ^^

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I would love more feedback for my shop, but try to take the "no news is good news" approach that was previously mentioned. I figure that as long as my shop looks solid and the feedback I have is positive then hopefully nobody would be deterred from making a purchase if they wanted too.

Re: Best way to get customer reviews

I always send out an email saying that their item has been shipped and when they get their item to help my small business by leaving positive feedback...something along those lines. I also explain how to leave that info because not everyone knows where to go to leave feedback. Since I have started this, I get more feedback.
