Best Rotary Trimmer?

I bought a Swingline smartcut rotary trimmer a few years back, and have found it to be of good quality. I am now in need of a new blade and new mat, and realized that I can buy I higher capacity Swingline trimmer (obviously with new blade and mat!) for only about $10 more than buying the parts I need. I'm tempted - I cut A LOT of paper.

Anyone have good/bad experiences with rotary trimmers? Not the ones that cut a couple sheets - have one of those, too - What I need has to cut at least 10 sheets at a time, and be at least 12" in length.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Denise,

When I bought my rotary cutters, I also bought the blade sharpeners that work beautifully and have saved so much money. It was a wise investment!

Re: Best Rotary Trimmer?

AlI know is I bought a "professional" guillotine cutter that handles 200 sheets of cardstock at a time, and it's always just ever so slightly off, no matter how carefully I screw down the sheets (it requires a LOT of pressure). It cost about $200, and I thought it was the way to go because the next step is the $2,000 automatic machine.

Now I wish I'd bought the top-of-the-line Swingway rotary.....

Oh Janet - we have an expensive guillotine cutter at work - and it is awful! You are so right - the paper is always slightly off. I only use a small Creative Memories one and a bit larger Fiskars brand cutter for a sheet at a time. Otherwise, they mess up the paper, and I'm a perfectionist.

Denise: wish I' d known! I end up "padding" each cut with 20 sheets at the bottom that go straight into recycling.

Swingline makes so many versions/price levels...how to choose?

I bought a full-size (about 12x12, I think) Fiskars rotary trimmer in 1997 and it's still going strong! I picked up extra cutting blades somewhere along the line, but haven't needed them yet. I cut quite a bit of paper, but that's not my livelihood.

Re: Best Rotary Trimmer?

I'm going to be in the minority. I've got an ancient guillotine cutter (about 30+ years old) that I'd found at an estate sale. works like a dream!

I hope I never need to replace it, cause it sounds that what's available now doesn't work as well.
