Best Instagram Hashtags

Hi All,
Just wondering what hashtags you all use on Instagram? I've just been doing #etsy and #etsyseller. Any hashtags out there that seem to work well for you all?

It depends on what I'm doing. I noticed that #KnittersOfInstagram work well for me. Or I'll use #Knitting or what ever I'm knitting at the moment (like #Hat or #Scarf). If I'm sewing, I'll do #Sewing.

I'll occasionally use #Etsy.

If its around the holidays, I'll use the holiday hashtags.

Before winter started, I was using the hashtag #WinterIsComing which worked well.

And of course you need to add hashtags for what the product is and who it's for as well.

I am finding that the more general they are, the more often you'll get CUSTOMERS to like them. I have come to realize that using things like "crocheter" or "etsyseller" just attracks other sellers. You want to reach people who will actually BUY your product. It is wonderful to have a community of sellers around you, however, the main goal is reaching new customers.

Therefore, I use things like:

I suggest things like that. Think like a personal account. What hashtags would you look at as a personal account?

I also try and include hashtags that attract a certain demographic such as #shopsmall #supportlocal #create #madewithlove #liveauthentic #handmadewithlove and just #love.

I'm really loving Instagram and find I use it more to promote than FB!

I'm loving it too Nell! Definitely more so than FB right now. I sell vintage but I use #vintage #industrialdecor, etc. I've found that a good one seems to be #design and #interiordesign for me as well.

I was going to say the same, Andi! I sometimes use local hashtags, especially when I'm selling person. They work well.

And if I'm selling in person, I'll use #CraftFair and that helps.

I also like to upcycle some items, especially when I go to the thrift stores and find stuff I can use. So I'll use #ThriftShop. That has gained me some new followers!

#ShopSmall and #ShopLocal has helped. I'll also hashtag stores that I frequent like AC Moore and Joannes.

I don't know what 'good' tags are but I find that while posting a photo it's awkward to then go off and search instagram

Just started to search Iconsquare.com via browser (on computer) while doing the phone stuff. It's probably available for the phone too.

I haven't received any views yet from IG. I just started on there not long ago. I don't even have it listed on my Shop site yet. I'm still trying to figure it out :D I've heard a lot of people say IG work great for them. I follow a couple who sell out of their items the moment they advertise on IG. So it really works well for some people.

This is such a useful thread discussion! I've been wondering this myself as I recently started a separate Instagram for my shop. I haven't used any hashtags yet because I wasn't exactly sure where to even start!

I found that the best tool is iconosquare.com to find popular tags, or you can search on Instagram itself in the search bar to see what's popular. Since you sell fabrics, start typing "fabric" to see what shows up and use those tags :)

How do you know how many people came thru your IG hashtags? if you go to http://websta.me/search/ you can check what types of hashtags are most popular. But what hashtags should i put on my IG, the ones that are more popular or less popular?

I love instagram, it's the main way I promote my lil shop. I agree with Nell by trying to attract a certain demographic with tags so I do this but find it helps to mix it up a bit too, so I'll you the standard #crossstitch #crossstitchersofinstagram tags and then throw in the #crossstitchingisbadass tag too!

Thank you Christian! I had never really considered who I was attracting using etsy and seller type hashtags. Just started using more general ones and am seeing lots more activity on my photos. Fingers crossed that equates to more sales :-)

@deanna i'm on IG for over a year now and was asking myself the same question but i think you'll never see IG as a traffic source as you cannot link your pics directly to your etsy shop. You can put the link in your bio but then it's direct traffic. That sucks a bit because you cannot control how much traffic you direct to your shop like this ....
