Benefit of Pintrest? What is it and should I get on board?

My friend Steph said I should be doing the pintrest thing. I've seen it ad heard people talking about it but never really paid it much mind. But someone sent me a message the other day saying they were "pinning" my polar bear soda can earrings. I thanked her heartily saying I'd never been "pinned" before but then later I was like 'what does that even mean?'

So my questions are:
What are the benefits?
How does it work?

Thanks so much!

I don't know if it answers *all* off your questions but I wrote a blog post about it here http://arachaelinwonderland.blogspot.com/2012/06/playing-with-pinterest-online.html

The benefits are that people will follow you & then you can (sparingly) pin your own items & have people see them. Hopefully they'll repin them & then more people will see them.

It also allows you to keep up with current trends as you can follow other people & see what they're pinning (& therefore liking). You can follow jewellery pin boards for example and see if there's a popular trend you can tap into :o)

Re: Benefit of Pintrest? What is it and should I get on board?

I'm fairly new here, and rather new on Pinterest too, but I started a Pinterest account before my shop here. I would pin random things I found interesting or that inspired me. Once I opened my shop, I made a board just for my Etsy items, and I discovered I was getting a fair amount of traffic from the pins, and people were repinning my items, which meant those peoples followers were seeing my pins. And when you pin something straight from Etsy, it adds the price and a link to it. I would say it's definitely gotten me alot of views.
