Banner Making Help.

So Ive decided to try my hand at making my own banner. Ive read many post on other banner topics and ppl say to use ps (if you have it) or even Gimp, but I have yet to see anyone post to use Publisher. So my Q is can you create a banner using Publisher? I use it for fliers, program books, etc., etc., but never done a banner (obviously). So whats your take on using Publisher (which I do have). Thank you all!

Re: Banner Making Help.

I think I just found out that you can. Did find an old tutorial on how to change from inches to pixels, but it was of an older Publisher program and it didnt work for me, so somehow I ran into how to change it. Working on it now.

I don't know why not, if you can set the size and save it as a jpg.

Re: Banner Making Help.

I think as long as you can set the right size, you can make it and export it as a .jpg file!

Good luck!

Re: Banner Making Help.

I've been making mine using a drawing program. Change the page size to 7.92 X 1.04 inches (that's 760 X 100 pixels) and zero margins. Print to PDF and save as a .jpg. I then open it in a photo editing program (Picasa) and crop it. It is quite a few steps and took me (with hubs help) a while to figure it out. No fancy programs needed though. I keep redoing my banner and I'm still not sure I'm very happy with it.

Re: Banner Making Help.

I make my banners in Adobe InDesign and do the same steps as Edee above. I have my document size 8" x 1". When I'm done creating the banner I print to PDF, then open it in Photoshop and save as a jpg using the "save for web" feature. I believe it makes the file a lower res when you do that. It's my understanding that you don't need high resolution images for websites. The standard is 72 dpi.

Re: Banner Making Help.

How are you going with this experiment? I've use Excel to create banners before.... yup!

What I did was to use the same ratio in size like the banner size here is 760" x 100 pixels, so I used 7.6cm to 1 cm.... something like that, it was a long while ago.

But it worked. So I guess where there's a will, there's a way!

Good luck!

Re: Banner Making Help.

I made my banner on Pixl.com. It was fairly user friendly. I think I will be using Pixl for more things later on.

Re: Banner Making Help.

I did find out how to change the page Im working on to pixels for proper sizing. It worked and I have a empty banner. Well, Ive been playing w/it and not too happy! LOL I can create beautiful recital program book pages, but these banners...not. I think its because Im trying to create something similar to the beautiful ones Ive seen around here, but in reality its not going to happen. Now I come back to this post w/a Halloween banner I created. Its not perfect by any means and its not professional, but Im tired and was just trying to hurry up and get one done. I think I just might end up buying one or creating one thru a suggested site. LOL Thanks guys for all the comments!

Re: Banner Making Help.

Ok I tried the 8in by 1in and the inDesign and Photoshop method that Judy said. But mine was still getting cut off. So I just went and did a 7in by 1in and it fit just fine. Just wasn't as clear as an image as I would've hoped it'd be. So still needing to figure out how to get it crystal clear! (Check my page to see what I mean by that)
