Backorder?

I ran out of a supply I need to make some of my products. I've seen this occasionally happen to other sellers, also. So, I'm glad I'm not the only one...

I deactivated my listings on the made-to-order items I have in my shop, waiting until I get the supply back in later this week.

However, I've seen some people leave their listings up and write a note that the product is on backorder until a certain date.

What would/do you do in this situation?

Re: Backorder?

I think you explain the situation, offer a shipping date that the product would be available and take it from there.

Re: Backorder?

Personally, I would would do what you did. What would you do if you found out that after ordering your supply, the supplier ran out or your order was delayed significantly? Add on that maybe someone purchased one of your listing. That would be more risk than I would want to take.

Re: Backorder?

Not every buyer reads everything in the description so I think that putting the listing back up is a little rude. I wouldn't enjoy going into a store and seeing lots of things I can't buy or have for a long time.
