BNR BNS and Blog Features

Are BNRs or BNSs just targeting other sellers? I think I may be unclear on the concept if anyone could help me out by explaining. Is there a benefit to them or am I missing something? (I've never been involved in one, as you can probably tell).

Another thing I wanted to ask about was blog features. How does one go about being featured on a blog? Do bloggers just kind of pick wh they want to feature, or do sellers ask them? I used to be involved in a lot of the indie fashion shopping scene online, and have a few connections, but I don't know if it's proper to be like 'Hey, here's my new shop, if you're interested', you know?

Yeha I have gotten an invite to one, too. It was a treasury type thing and I THINK you had to buy an item to post an item... But it seemed aimed at sellers and I was unsure it was legit or even a good idea.

Re: BNR BNS and Blog Features

Yes, BNRs and BNSs only target other Etsy sellers. The whole advantage they offer of effectively selling high traffic treasury spots is of no value to a pure buyer. On the other hand, if you're a scarf seller and a soap seller is currently being featured, then you can do some shopping for luxury soap and get some free advertising in the process when hopefully someone will want to buy one of your scarves! The whole thing is a little like trading with other sellers except it gives you feedback in your store, it's very social and there is a low probability in most cases of you getting any sales from it - you know - unless you're selling very cheap stationary. Stationary/tags do very well in BNRs/BNSs.

Re: BNR BNS and Blog Features

for the blog feature, it's a bit of both. some bloggers want you to submit to them and some don't. most have the information on their blog about submitting to them. if not, it can't hurt to contact them and say something like 'hey I've been following your blog for a while and I noticed you feature a lot of stores like mine! here's my shop if you'd like to look around etc etc'

there are a lot of articles out there on how to contact people about being featured, just make sure you do your homework and contact people who actually want what you have. nothing good comes from just submitting everywhere. just google something like 'etsy, how to get featured on blogs' I'm sure handmadeology has an article about it. :)
