Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

She seemed so excited and it's been 5 days and she hasn't purchased the listing. I sent her the link to the item and she loved it supposedly and asked if it's ready to be bought. I sent her an note back saying yes...and now nothing?

weird? what do I do?

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Do you ever see her? Maybe you could mention it to her then.

I had a custom order (from a stranger) up for almost two weeks before she bought it. I wouldn't worry yet - people get distracted by family, work, daily things.

Non-sellers do not think about etsy all day long ;) Some people don't even get online everyday for FB or email (!)

You've done all you can do and as long as the listing is under 'reserved' it will be there for her. It can be frustrating, but she will likely come through.

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Thanks for the encouragement Lizabeth :) I hope she comes through since the item cannot really be sold to the average costumer!

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

If she is a 1st time buyer with Etsy, she may be unsure how to complete the check-out process. You could wait a couple more days and then send a little convo saying - Here's a helpful guide to making your first purchase: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/339

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Next time I would suggest NOT to make any custom items until the buyer pays first...

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

I looked at the order it seems fine to me and blends well with your other creations. If she doesn't buy it Im pretty sure someone else will :)

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

I worry about that...it's a size 11... most my customers purchase sizes 4-7, with the exception of 1.

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Really weird it happen to me too, I made a custom order for someone and now they are no longer on etsy when I try to convo them it says "We're sorry, it appears that you're trying to send a message to an account that is no longer on Etsy."
Silly me I did not put a watermark. I have sold items to them before, so I thought it would be ok.
Let me know if you figure out how to deal with this.
Good luck to you with this prob!

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

You wait. People often want you to respond immediately but then take their time to respond.

Thanks to the convenience of the internet (or inconvenience), people seem to spend a lot of time researching - there's so much out there that I think sometimes it's overwhelming and causes people to make slower choices instead of quicker ones.

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

I always create a listing and have them purchase the RESERVED listing before I even start to create the item. Once they have purchased and we have discussed all details, I create, but not without payment.

It maps it out quite well in the custom order section on etsy, suggecting they pay in full first.

Hope that helps :)

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

True Donna,
But if they are no longer on Etsy what do you do?
IF when you convo them it says "We're sorry, it appears that you're trying to send a message to an account that is no longer on Etsy."
What do you do?

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Just when I gave up on the person, they purchased the item and wrote a long thank you note. Now I just feel like a really bad person for thinking they would not buy it =/

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

Don't feel bad, Mana! They bought it in the end, that's what matters! Congratulations on your sale--and on your acquaintance coming through in the end! :)

Re: Awkward..custom order for an acquaintance

In the future require all customers to prepay before you make something :] Then show them a picture after. That way you dont spend hours making something only to have someone not buy it.
