Are my photos too bright on your computer?

There are so many different computers out there so I was wondering if my photos are too bright?

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

Maybe just slightly. Mine need to be brighter so maybe we can find a great middle ground :)
Not too much for yours though, you have nice pictures.

They aren't too bright, but many of them look somehow...desolate. I would consider doing some sort of background or at least possibly texture behind your pieces. But I'm no professional photographer by any means either.

I'm also not a photographer, but here's my feedback...

I agree with Kenneth - they aren't too bright per se, but with only one photo and no backdrop, it's hard to see what the item really is like. I'd find something around the house - a bowl or mug, a model maybe or something that's lightly textured to give your pretty pieces some oomph.

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

Your focus of the picture is the product, and somehow it seems to be getting lost in the background.

A contrasting background would help, if it a light product, a darker background would help your product to stand out.

Think like the buyer, I would be picking up the product....looking at it from the top, the bottom, the side, a close up of what it is made of....try to do at least 3 to four pictures of all of the products.

also if you can get model to have a product in use, that would help the buyer think...so that is what it would look like on me.....

Good luck, and happy selling!

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

I agree with all of the above comments and will add my two cents. Some of the photos are rather small and not centered. For example in this photo, the product is way off to the side and most of the image seems like a white background. You should be taking advantage of all the space you have available to highlight your product. You can use a free tool like Picasa to crop and edit your pictures. I would also post the 5 photos that are allowed for each item, photographing it from all angles possible perhaps with something in the background so that the buyer can get a good idea of the size of it.

I have a new Airbook and some of your pictures are a little too bright, to where detail is being washed out, such as this listing

Look little bit too bright on my computer, i think it burns the details sometimes, for example on this photo.

I kinda like your photos because I also have bright photos, :) But I think Bright is always better than Dark.

Thank you guys for your input. I will work on photos and try to do different backgrounds, if I can.

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

It's not that they're too bright, it's that there's only one photo. I would never buy an item with only one photo. I can't pick it up to touch it, so I need to have multiple pictures of multiple angles to make up for the fact that it's not right here in front of me.

The white backgrounds are definitely harsh. Some look bluish, too, and some just have far too much space around the subject - did you use fotofuze?

Some yes. Others I think are fine. This one in particular is exceptionally bright.

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

As far as white space/ centering. I would just do a bit of a mix, adding some zoomed in cover photos. If you look at some of the most successful stores they play with white space/ centering- I think in some cases yours come across very artistically and it would be a shame if all your images looked like stock photos.

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

It appears to me that you're using software to increase the exposure (brightness) to get rid of darkness and grey color of the background. But that's eliminating your shadows, which are needed to give your items "substance".

I think there are two solutions. The first one is to learn to use the EV button on your camera so that your photos are taken with the correct exposure and all you have to do in software is brighten and sharpen. And the second one is to learn how to use white balance. Your camera likely has a setting for it.

Your pictures aren't too bright, per se, they just lack depth. You don't want harsh shadows, but you do need some.

Getting a good exposure when you're taking photos on a white background is tricky because the camera is fooled by all the white. I explain it here: http://thebluebottletree.com/photography-tip-why-are-my-pictures-so-dark/

They are smidgen too bright, but that can easily be fixed with just a bit of editing!

Your photos are nice and bright on my screen! I do wish that with some of your items had more than one photo to showcase what you make even better :)

Re: Are my photos too bright on your computer?

Bright is better, but you are a little over-exposed-looking. I agree with others that you are losing depth and detail, especially since you're products are flexible/cloth. Obviously you don't want a busy background for the patterned/colorful pieces (the plain bags photographed outdoors look great!), but something simple in the background and making sure you are using natural light if at all possible, would be a good idea.
