Anyone Promoting Listings?

Hello everyone,
I tried promoting listings last year and was unsuccessful ( no sales) . Willing to give it another go but was just wondering if anyone else was paying for promoting and if they thought it was a good idea. Thanks for any help you could send my way.

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

If you do a search in this team forum, you will find many threads on this topic and the general conclusion seems to be that promoted listings are a waste of money. Only Etsy (and a small handful of sellers, usually high volume supplies sellers) makes money out of them.

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

From time to time, I do searches to see if my work comes up and I find items from other sellers coming up 2 or 3 times in the same search. The same item comes up on page 1, then page 2 etc. These are not paid ads. I don't know why and how that happens, so I wouldn't pay for any ads.

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

I am always promoting my listings.
It has worked for me.
I spent around $400 since I started in March and I have earned back over $1.5k. I think I could have spent even less than that, because my bids were way higher than necessary for the first several months.

I did a lot of research too.
I read an ebook from another really successful Etsy seller (I can't remember her name from top of my head), and she said it works for her too.

And Holly Casto (another successful Etsy seller), she said in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyCMdp8uZ7I) about 5 minutes in, that it works for her too.

Anyway, my point is, it can work really well and I'm not quite sure why others are saying it doesn't work. I guess you could give it a try and stick to it for like a month. I didn't start getting sales for the first few days, but it is worth it over a longer period of time.

I hope this helps! All the best! (:

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

I'm happy with my experience so far promoting listings. I am selective about which items I promote, and set a pretty low budget for those items. Last month, I spent about $40 and had $600 in sales resulting from those promotions. Plus, I've had a lot of people favoriting my shop, which may result in future sales. No harm in trying it out for a month or so!

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

That's good to know!

I was wondering if there is a way to know that $600 were generated from the $40 promotion ad?

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

Hi Anne! Wow, that's pretty awesome. I have so many listings, so I haven't tried selective promotion yet.

And Fishcouple, yes, there is. Etsy actually has a section that shows how much you have made due to promotion. So, if you go to the menu, Promote > Promoted Listings, there is a "Shop Overview". And below that are 4 tabs and the last 2 tabs show you "Cost" and "Revenue". So "Cost" is how much you have spent and "Revenue" is how much you have earned due to promotion. That "Revenue" is not the same as the total revenue that you've made.

Re: Anyone Promoting Listings?

I've cut way back on mine. I ran them for about 2 months and found I was paying just under half what I was making. That's just too much. I'm also seeing days where my stats are below last years, even though I have twice as much stuff in my shop, promote off site more often and am paying for listings... that's just not good enough to my mind. so I'm only turning promotion on for the days of the week when I see usually see a sale spike (Friday through Monday for me)
