Any suggestions for a new camera?

My camera is about 3 years old now and it's nearing the end of it's useful life. I was planning on getting a new camera before my fiance and I go on our honeymoon this fall, but now that I've gotten so into Etsy I think I'm going to get one a bit sooner. I've been doing some research online, and today I went to Best Buy to check out a few in person. I was hoping to spend less than $300. I found two I like quite a bit today. The first was the Fuji FinePix S4300, which cost $199. The second was the Canon Powershot SX40 HS, which cost $379. I really loved the Canon - it had some nice features and the macro was so good that you could actually have the lens touching an object and it could still focus on it and take a nice picture. However, $379 is more than I wanted to pay. I looked on Amazon and Ebay and all of the new ones were at least that much (or would be after shipping). The used ones on Ebay were going for about $300 each plus shipping and I don't want to take a chance on a used camera if the price difference isn't that much. Do any of you have any suggestions? Any other cameras with great macros that I should look into? Should I just go for it and buy the one I really like?

I'm a cannon addict. I have three, the powershot, and two Rebels. You cant go wrong with them. :) I had a Fuji Fine pics a long time ago. If they haven't improved the quality of them I wouldn't recommend it as a camera that would last.

Natasha, what model of Powershot do you have? The Rebels looks awesome, but they're definitely outside of my price range.

:D you can spend $80 and get a better "etsy" camera than you think. the main thing you need is "lens focal range" most people on etsy have smallish items that require use of the macro part of your camera. if you need to get SUPER close, like i do, then some fancy $300 camera may not get close enough. I had a crappy samsong s730 or whatever it was for years and years and the lens finally stopped working right and i upgraded to a nikon d3100. but i did a lot of research before i settled on a dslr camera though. i had thought of just buying another run of the mill point and shoot w/ a really short focal range.

The Canon Rebel is where it's at! Expensive but worth every penny. Kit lens is great. Additional lenses can be pretty reasonable. For Someone with an Etsy shop, it's worth the investment. The portrait lens is amazing and under $100. Also, they tend to hold their value very well over time. I'm sure you don't want to spend that much right now but I would consider holding off and saving up. You'll never need to buy another camera.

Thanks Katie. The website is great! I know I can take pictures for Etsy with a cheaper camera. I could just continue to use my current camera until it actually dies. I just want to upgrade and I really want a better camera before I go on my honeymoon.

Nicole, I might look into the Rebels some more, but I don't think I'll be able to afford it before the honeymoon. Maybe for the next upgrade.
