Advice for a newbie? :)

Hello! I just started selling jewelry, and no sales so far. Three questions?

1) How reasonable do you consider my prices & shipping?

2) What changes would you like to see are far as photos?

3) How effective is making treasuries for shop exposure?

Thank you! :)

Cute shop! I think both the prices and the pictures are good, and no immediate changes come to mind.

In my experience, making treasuries hasn't resulted in a lot of shop exposure or even hits on the treasury itself. This changes, I think, if you join a team specifically devoted to making and promoting them. The members will look and help get the word out.

1) I think your prices are excellent, however I think customers appreciate variety. For example, if some of your prices could be lowered, then go for it. If some of them took longer to make then others, price them higher! Prices are a reflection of the cost of the materials, and how long it took you to put them together

2) I think your pictures are great! Keep experimenting with different backgrounds and focal points and shot angles, and see what you like best.

3) as far as shop exposure, not a whole lot. however I've made several Etsy friends through treasuries and frankly I enjoy curating items and giving other sellers recognition.

hope that helped!

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

I agree with Grace. I also think you just need to keep on adding more and more items. The more you have in your shop...the more views you get...and in turn the more SALES you get. (<--that seems to be the general consensus!) Buyers want to see a variety of pieces in your shop. Great start!! GOOD LUCK!!

Oh...and regarding Treasuries....the jury's still out on that one! I enjoy making them...but I'm not busting my back to do so. I really don't know if it gets you anywhere you wouldn't ordinarily find yourself. So my advice? If you like making them...go for it. Otherwise...it's probably better to get your OWN pieces into a Treasury. So just keep on making 'ironic' things & hope that people find them, lol. (Renew! Renew!)

Hope this helps!! :)

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

Looks like you've got 3 sales now! Just be patient! I also struggle with low sales and everyone just says stick to it. Work hard on making better photos, network with FB and Twitter and constantly improve and finetune your keywords!
Good luck - your shop is very cute!

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

How often do you list new items? I see you currently only have twelve items available; any chance you could add a bunch more? Your pieces are awesome--if I had the money I'd be all over 'em! Especially the "meh" one. Way cool.

My advice is to just keep building your inventory; the more things you list, the more things there are for Etsy search engines to pick up and show to potential buyers.

oh, and... I posted a link to your shop on my facebook page. Love your work and wanted to share it :)

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

Hannah, your shop is quite eye catching. Nice job!

If i may suggest a couple thing...your pics are great, but i'd suggest filling all 5 slots someone. Your tags reflect your products, however when adding them, you must think like a buyer...what would you put into a google search when searching for something like this. Ex. Modern jewelry, sterling necklace...you get the idea.

Treasuries dont usually drive alot of traffic. Its kinda like an open house, your neighbors are nosy enough to come check it out (other sellers in the treasury), but doesnt get you a whole lot of new traffic.

Tags. Tags. Thats what drives your traffic. Im 100% positive.

Good luck!

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

I agree with Deb, while treasuries are fun and get some exposure, I have only have had a sale once through a treasury. More of my outside sales were from google. So tags and titles help, I am still trying to figure out the science of it all. Takes awhile. :) I would also say to build up more inventory for sure, I really like your Love necklace. The more you have the more links to help people find your items.

This is really helpful information from all of you nice people! =) I will work on my tags, and I'm planning a more comprehensive reshoot when I list some more items... I do have a lot more to add, I just need to be able to afford more jewelry chain hahaha ;)

And Amy, how very sweet! I love your shop, I'm digging the supplies...

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

I would highly recommend networking with Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and other social platforms. Its an easy way to share your crafts visually and get increased visibility.

Some of my best days are those when I work hard at Twitter and FB. I would suggest setting each of them up and linking them to this Etsy account so people can follow along with you easily.

I love your shop btw, just hearted it!

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

Thank you Maggie! Also, have any of you had success with coupon codes? I tried it for the first time...

Re: Advice for a newbie? :)

I would suggest for your first photos trying to find a style and stick with it. For example, show the item on a model or flat on a plain background, but do the same thing for each item. It helps the shop look a bit more cohesive. Also, putting the banner over the item photo for the coupon code is a bit distracting. I would either make it much smaller, or just leave it off the photo. Having it in the listing should be enough.

As far as treasuries go- I think they help to build you up within the Etsy community and help get your personal style out there, but I've not seen sales from them.

I think you're off to a great start and you have beautiful work. Like others have said, add some more items and be patient. The sales will come.
