Kathi from GRITSGirlz:
Oh, where to start:
+ A way to mark the listing for a box only, e.g., a breakable item should not be put in an envelope by the calculator and I've had it place a breakable item in the PM Flat Rate Padded Envelope.
+ A calculator that does not ignore PM Flat Rate boxes in box preferences in favor of PM variable pricing because it may be cheaper. I've reported several instances to support@etsy.com, but this ongoing issue has yet to be addressed.
+ If the above can't change, then a way to mark on the listing that the calculator only use our box preferences so we can force it to honor the boxes we use and stock.
+ A way to build insurance cost into the shipping area of a listing. I prefer this info on each listing vs. incorporating it into the handling fee on a shipping profile.
+ A way to note Signature Confirmation on a shipping profile separate from the handling fee.

Hi Kathi,
You’ve amassed quite a list!
+ Limiting listings to certain package types. Thanks for sharing this feedback, I can imagine how this would be helpful if you ship items that are fragile. Would it be more helpful to state what package preferences a listing can use, or what package preferences a listing cannot use?
+ PM Flat Rate vs variable pricing. I’m not sure I’m understanding, would you mind providing me more clarification? Right now, calculated shipping should be optimizing for both the smallest and least expensive package option. Are you saying that it’s picking a more expensive option, or that you would like for it to pick a particular option over picking the least expensive?
+ Making calculated shipping only use the boxes you use and stock. You can do this now, by unchecking the “Etsy common box sizes” on the Shipping Profile Manager page. If you remove that option, we’ll only consider whatever Package Preferences you select. In the event that we can’t fit one of your items in any of your Package Preferences, we’ll use the item dimensions.
+ Adding extra costs like insurance. Would you mind providing me with a bit more information on how you factor in insurance cost? Does it vary based on the cost of the listing itself, or some other factor?
+ Adding support for Signature Confirmation. We’ve heard from other sellers about the need to support Signature Confirmation as a buyer add-on and completely understand how this would simplify the checkout / order process. Do you mind sharing with me how often this comes up in your orders? Is this something you’d like to include in your shipping cost, or something you’d like for buyers to choose (and pay for) during checkout?
Thank you for your candid feedback,
Calia
