Additional Language Enrolment

Hello there

I was flicking through my shop settings and under Language I noticed a section called Additional Language Enrolment - where you can tick other languages that you are able to speak to sell to people in different countries, presumably.

My question is... who has these ticked? Who sells to other countries?

I have only got English ticked and I only sell to countries like the US, AU and UK sometimes going to France or Germany, but rarely.

With translation so easy on the Internet, do you think it's possible to have, say, German ticked and open up your market to more people? In all honesty, I don't receive THAT much correspondence from my customers for the amount of greeting cards I sell.

Also, for me, it would be nice to have greeting cards in multiple languages. That would mean more products in my store, increasing my chances of being found, and being open to a much wider audience.

Let me know what you think!

Chris

Re: Additional Language Enrolment

My Shop is both in German and english but then German is my mother tongue so that is no problem for me.
I would not advise you to tick any language you do not speak well enough to answer convos without being totally dependent on google translate. It is not that good after all.
What's more, etsy offers automatic translations for those who have set their languages to german, french, etc. These translations are quite horrible and are giving me a headache when browsing through etsy but you can at least get the gist.
Greeting cards in multiple languages would be nice though

Re: Additional Language Enrolment

I totally agree with Barbara.

I speak several languages, but my shop is in English only because the others aren't really neccessary. A lot of my search keyword are in French, Spanish, Italian - that means people are using translations and still coming to my English shop.

Re: Additional Language Enrolment

I am French so I have enrolled in French as well as English. This means I am able to communicate in French fluently if there are any queries from French customers.

As I sell knitting patterns that I write in both English and French, I think it's important for me to have my shop in French too as there could be some technical queries from French customers who may have only basic English.

I wouldn't do this if I couldn't speak French fluently and I want to make it clear that I can respond to customers' queries in French as well as in English, without having to resort to Google translate (or Giggle translate as it should really be called, as some of the translations are very poor quality).

I hope no shops are enrolled in translations of languages without being able to communicate in the chosen languages because if they are relying on Google translate, I really would not want to be one of their foreign customers!
