Adding Items

Is it best to add all at once or to do it more gradually? I've read other threads where it seems that once a shop gets to 20 items or more listed that they make their first sale. Has that been true for anyone?

I have 14 items currently listed and am pacing myself at posting a new listing once a day. Then I tweak other listings/photos and create new items or do some work on that pesky thing called coursework. I'd love to hear other strategies!

Re: Adding Items

I think getting into the habit of adding one a day is a great idea!! That way its manageable for you and you can take your time with it! Quality over quantity. Plus I think giving your customers and admirers something new to look at everyday is exciting! Just keep at it! Your shop looks very cute!!

Re: Adding Items

I started my shop with one full page.

Now I try to put at least 2 or 3 items to gether before listing and try to list 3 to 4 times a week, means about 8 to 12 items a week.

This week I finaly started my 5 th page, big smile.

Good luck with your shop

Re: Adding Items

Thanks, Mike, Mollie, and Via!

What got me really wondering was the amount of views I received in the first week I was open with only 3 times vs now with hitting double digits. Thankfully I'll have a model to use in the next couple of weeks and maybe adding a photo of someone wearing them will entice a few more lookers!

Have a happy weekend and good luck!

Re: Adding Items

well, i knit, so it's kind of hard to list an item a day, but i'm trying to work more quickly so that i can list more often. i'd say listing as often as you can is key. but always be working on the shop as a whole is important too, i.e., tweeking seo and photos. good luck to you!

Re: Adding Items

For me, I had two sales when all the items I listed were 8! I don't remember they were more than that. But then when I went to the forum and got it critiqued I added more listings. That helped increase my views a lot but I had no sales until the end of February.

Re: Adding Items

I try to list one new thing a day, but not to add more than 3 new items a day...if I add too many at once I worry that the new ones won't be seen, and I don't want to spam my facebook page with new listings. Plus, on a day I don't get a chance to make something, I might have something left over from the day before.

Re: Adding Items

I list at least one thing a day, if I don't I feel it about 2 days later with minimal views! It's weird! But I have a stockpile of about 200 items, and I create something new daily. I usually list about 10 items a week total. The only thing that slows me down is a never ending waiting list of custom projects ;)

Re: Adding Items

I tend to have listing surges and do a few at once then do not list any for a few days. I take photos of things I have made when I have spare time and the lights right and. Keep them in an 'test' file for when. Have more time for listing. Everyone says the magic number is 100items. I hope so because I have yet to sell anything from my shop :(

I'm in the same boat, Tara! I hope we both can hit our first sales soon!

Re: Adding Items

I list one item a day whenever possible. If I have nothing to list, I promote an older item in my shop (I only renew if something is close to expiring or already expired).

My shop was dead in the water for a couple weeks in March. I also went a full week without listing anything new because I didn't have time to photograph my new items. I started listing new stuff again on March 19 and I got a sale that day. I've listed something new everyday since and I've had 3 more sales since the 19th (4 in the past 5 days), one of which was for four items. I also have a pending custom order. This has been my busiest week for sales since November! :)

Re: Adding Items

We list twice a day, morning and night.

As for items vs sales.. it really depends on the shop. Our photography shop had its first sale with only 3 items up. This store we had listed 15 before we got it.
