Acknowledging Admirers

I just got my first shop admirer, yippee. I'm wondering if it is OK to send them a note thanking them for visiting? I read an older post that said it was prohibited, but when I read the rules I couldn't find anything specific. I'm not going to try and sell to them, just thank them for favoriting my shop. Is that OK?

It would be an unsolicited convo and is that for considered spam and not allowed.

This would fall under "unsolicited advertising or promotions":

"Please also be respectful of other Etsy members, and do not use Conversations for the following activities:

- sending unsolicited advertising or promotions, requests for donations, or "spam"


If recipients mark your conversations as spam, your shop can be affected (suspended). Not worth it!

I always just try to "return the favor"... if they favorite my shop or an item, I try to do the same for them - it's a great way to discover shops and merchandise that you might not otherwise get a chance to see! Congratulations on your first admirer ...and here's to many more!

If i was a customer favoring a shop I think I would be happy to get an email saying 'thanks, you are the first person to ever favor my shop and I am totally stoked!!!"
I dont think that can be called spammy.

I think that it would be perfectly fine to send a nice little thank you note to them(: I would also ( just to prove its not spammy) fav. their shop and their first page of items(: I would also include "this is the first time..." because you really couldn't send that to everyone, so there's no way it could be spam! haha!

I have received messages like that and they do not encourage me to purchase from the shop. I actually find it a bit annoying..

I can totally understand your enthusiasm, but if you're someone who favorites a lot of shops, getting a bunch of "thank you!" messages in your inbox could be annoying, which is why it's considered spam.


I agree with the others that if you want to show that you noticed, visit their shop (if they have one) and favorite a few things - or if they buy something from you later, THEN write a handwritten note to include with their order that says something like "you were the first person to favorite my shop - thank you for your order!"

I think that rule has good intentions, but it's still unfortunate. I know I still want to thank every single person that favorites my shop. If you do choose to message them, just make sure you mention that you aren't trying to spam them or annoy them or anything, you just genuinely want to thank them! :)

I don't see anything "spammy" or wrong with a friendly thank you. The rules also say that convos are for building friendly relationships; How can anyone find a quick "thank you for favoriting my shop" annoying? I send a quick thank you when I get a great review. Being friendly and grateful seems right to me, so that's what I do. :-)

I think its nice to send a thank you note,. I don' t think it is a spam, but may be you can mention that this is you first fave from them and you want to say Thank you. I dont see anything wrong with it.
