I had a customer contact me about 2 1/2 weeks ago to see if I would be interested in making some nursery bedding for her baby who was due around the middle of March. I said yes as I was able to work it into my schedule. The order consisted of a quilt, sheets, bedskirt and bumper pad. I finally finished the items and shipped them today. We had had a few standard convos during this time, but nothing unusual. After I sent her the note that her items were on the way and when to expect them, she sent me a different kind of convo.
In her convo she thanked me for making the items and said they were very excited to get them. Then she said she wanted to tell me something personal. During her pregnancy she and her husband were'nt exactly sure of what they wanted but kept looking for the right bedding set for the baby's room, but couldn't find anything that they really liked. This is their first child and it had to be perfect. Earlier this month she was at the store looking at fabric, and found exactly what they had been looking for so she bought the coordinated fabrics. After she got home and started thinking about making them up, she realized she made a huge mistake as she doesn't sew and couldn't make them. Since her due date was getting pretty close, she started again looking online to see what was available. She typed in a word that described the theme of the fabric she had purchased, and was amazed when up came one of my sets in exactly the fabric combinations she had purchased. She contacted me immediately and was so thrilled when I agreed to make all of the items. The really special part is that her mother had been a wonderful seamstress who handmade quilts for all of the babies in the family and would have loved to make all of the items for her daughter's first baby's nursery. Unfortunately her mother passed away last year. The really amazing part is that her mother had the same first name as mine, even spelled the same.
When I read her note my eyes started to tear up. To me this is one of those special rewards we occasionally get from making things for others, and I thought I would share it with you.
