have been paid with Etsy's shop payment not Paypal. I know several people have been reluctant to use this feature but I believe it is helping my sales. Yes, it is inconvienent not to have the money to pay for postage through paypal but I've just left the money in there from those that have paid via paypal and that has covered the shipping on the other orders. Yes, I have to fill out the shipping label manually on paypal but that isnt really that big of deal either.
Just wanted to share my experience and see what others are thinking of it now.

I'm not sure I understand the concept of "default payment" all 4 options are listed in my cart. I just have to pick one.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

I was actually just wondering about DC- still so on the fence about it. I think the sheer fact that I can't import the orders into PP's multi shipping will be enough to detour me from activating it. But, I hate to loose out on a potential customer though. What to do, what to do??

As a buyer- I get really frustrated that it's the default option. I'm still not used to it & have to go back & select PP.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

What is not fair is that those of us based outside of the US can't activate Direct Checkout for our shops... which means that we loose out and US based shops have a distinct advantage (great if you live in the US!!!).

ETSY ??? Any chance of making DC for ALL of us please ? So we can all have better sales ? I think we all believe in equality and a level playing field !

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

So you all talked me into it and I was trying to set it up but it only can go to my bank account, not into my PayPal? That kinda makes me sad. I want everything in the same place. It makes me a little nervous giving etsy my bank account info as well. Am I being paranoid?

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

The majority of our sales have still been with paypal. Only 2 orders last month with DC and 1 order this month. Roughly 3 out of the last 15 sales.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

At checkout the way etsy has it. It looks as though you can ONLY use etsy check out if you have a credit card. That's why most people will check out with etsy.

I have an order for a bunch of ties. The order is going to take 2-3 weeks to complete and send out, I don't think i can work and go 3-4 weeks without getting paid. Plus etsy doesn't tell us what bank or service they are using.

So the question is not, can etsy trick people into using the service but do you want your payments to be held for weeks in an unknown bank with unknown security features or lack thereof?

I looked the difference up before I turned on the DC. PayPal charges $0.30 per transaction + 2.9%, the fees for DC are $0.25 per transaction + 3%.

That's not the only difference, PayPal gives you 1% cash back on PayPal debit card transactions. So the PayPal effective rate is more like 1.9% :)

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

I think it is a bit of a hassle to wait for the money, and secondly, a hassle to be sure that you check off that you shipped it right away after you do (to move your funds over as quickly as possible), and to be sure that you check off to move the money over to your bank (because it takes several days to move it over after you do that). I also, miss having some money in my Paypal. However, with all of that, I feel that it works fine. The system is well enough for me, and I'm sure that this is offering much better customer service.

So overall, I like it:)

Actually, it takes me less than a week to receive payment as soon as I mark my items shipped with delivery confirmation number I can request a deposit into my checking account.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

It is the default method of payment if you have it activated. Meaning, one option will already be marked and that one is direct checkout. If a buyer wants to use paypal they have to indicate that. Because etsy benefits by having people use direct checkout, of course that is the default option (they arent running a charity). I am suspicious that most customers are click, click, clicking and then find themselves at the screen that asks for their credit card info. At that point they likely shrug and enter it. I would be more inclined to offer direct checkout if I could make the default option paypal, since that is the method that deposits money for my immediate use. If the customer had to change the option to direct checkout, that would be a true test of how many prefer that method.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

I activated and use USPS.com for my shipping so I can still use PayPal. It is a bit frustrating to wait on the money but I seem to have more sales with it than PayPal.

thats what everyone says, but thats only after you ship. i have some items that take up to 2 months to ship, and but its not unusual for me to have items that take 1 week or more to ship.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

Has your sales volume actually increased in general or just the amount that use DC?

I bought something and before I realized what happened I was being asked for my credit card - I was able to back up and pay with paypal which was what I wanted to do. So, I wonder how many others that happens to?

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

There's someone who is strictly a buyer in another forum thread about DC and she says that she will not use Paypal and that people have lost her sales that don't have DC.

I'm not sure that I've gained any sales by having DC, but at least I won't be losing the sales of people who prefer not to use Paypal. Paypal is pretty simple, but a lot of people are intimidated, or just refuse to use it for some reason. We sellers who are more comfortable with it see it differently than a buyer who doesn't feel comfortable with it.

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

When you bought something and click on "proceed to checkout", it will go straight to credit card payment page. I guess that's the default for sellers who sign up for DC.

Do you have to manually "cut / paste" address to PayPal to print label? What if you have 50 labels to print. I'd guess that's about an hour extra works. I am not sure that is such an efficient use of time. Just a thought.

Not that I have 50 labels to print a day lol

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

After reading up on all 30 or so posts here, I've decided to continue without the DC. Most of my orders are custom and I require full payment up front so I can purchase the specific supplies for that order. I don't like the idea of not having that money until I'm done with the entire project. I might consider it in the future if this changes

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

I have it too, but I have yet to get any sales from it. :( But I haven't had any sales since early May, so it's not like I'm getting sales from Paypal anyway.

Glad it was successful for you though!

Re: 18 0f my last 20 orders.............

I still haven't activated mine...
Ever since I started using Paypal for shipping my life became much easier. I don't want to go backwards, specially now that I have more labels to print!
I like having all my business money with PayPal and then just using their card for business purchases. What really bugs me thou is that etsy holds your money until you ship. I do not understand their reasoning behind it considering that a lot of us make custom items or at least made to order. Besides I don't think etsy has the right to hold a money which is not theirs! If they want to do this in order to have a fund to protect the buyer, they should at least deposit 50% automatically and the other 50% upon shipping. I could live with that.
But please etsy, do something for the shipping too!
