Hey guys,
Wow it's been a while since I've posted/helped in this thread and I do apologize! (especially since I'm the original creator of this team *slaps hands*)
I've been kinda busy baking a baby over here, so forgive me...less than 8 weeks to go (yikes!!)
Anywho, I was thinking I should share with you some banner tips that have been going through my mind lately. As some of you know, I am a freelance graphic designer with over 5 years experience.
I always get customers/people asking about their banner and how to make it stand out...I also have come across some shops who should have asked ;)
So here goes...feel free to add to the list in comments below, thanks!
Blessings,
Jacy

5 SHOP BANNER TIPS ON STANDING OUT
(we'll start backwards)
5.) Stick to your style
This may seem like "duh" but stick to a design that is your style, and not like everybody else. If your style is a popular one, then okay, use it. Basically, it's not cool to be a copy-cat...you be you and that will standout for sure!
4.) Less is more
I'm sure you already know what I'm talking about. Avoid flashy/textured backgrounds with flashy/textured fonts layered on top. If you want something funky, either choose the background OR the text...be careful not to do too much design overload, it hurts the eyes...
3.) Your shop name is...what?!
This tip goes with number 4. Make sure you have a clear, legible font! There are plenty out there and I'm not saying make it boring...just please, make it so when a new customer happens upon your shop, they can read your banner with no problem. This can be a huge turn off.
2.) Cohesiveness is a must
One thing I always do with my customers is make sure that their banner reflects the style of their items. Sometimes that means even including one of their items in the banner...sometimes, it just means choosing the right colors. Whatever it is, you want your banner to flow with your shop, and not against it.
1.) Make sure YOU love it
Lastly...or firstly, whatever...make sure YOU love it first!! Millions of people can tell you what will look best, but if you have a banner right now that you don't absolutely love (and I mean, love, like you keep the link up to your shop just to stare at it once in a while for inspiration lol) then change it.
The truth is, if you love it, others will to and that will make customers notice your shop more and possibly stay longer.
