I am wondering if it is a copy right problem if I use a few words from a song in a painting. For example “she is buying a stairway to heaven “ (and yes I’m from a certain era, ha) - the words would be visible but the focus of the painting will be a figure and landscape. ). I have no idea if this is ok or not. Thank you for your thoughts on this topic.
I would think it depends on who owns the rights to the song. I have seen disclaimers; "I do not own the rights to this music" (these lyrics) I don't know if 'staircase..' would make a difference.
Thankyou. It’s a famous song by the rock group Led Zeppelin and I would not want to change it from stairway to staircase. It’s the image it brings to mind that I think would be fun to paint but I am also finding that some people like words written on paintings so I thought I might try it. I will have to see if adding I don’t own the rights to the song matters. I certainly would not be making a lot of money from it, although if it proved popular I might make prints
How did you get on?
