ETSY HELP. Why your stuff isn't selling

Jump to solution
So you opened your shop, but your stuff isn't selling... You're not sure why and it's totally frustrating. Well, that's a common problem. I started doing reviews a little while back because I want all of you talented people find success here, on Etsy, and I noticed that everyone was making very similar mistakes.

Every single review I write, I explain some of the Etsy basics that are essential to building a successful shop, and I figured it's not going to be any good if I just keep repeating myself day in and day out, so I decided to create a universal "Etsy Shop Basics" tutorial. I compiled all the important information every beginner needs to know, and conveniently organized it in a step by step PDF file.

It's a super handy learning guide and will always be there even if you forget how something in your shop works! It's easy to read and follow, and best of all, it's super affordable! Check it out!

Hey, everyone!

Sorry for the prolonged absence, but I am officially back!!

Now, I want to continue to give reviews and guidance, but due to the high number of requests I just physically get to them all. That being said, there is good news!

I AM REOPENING REVIEW REQUESTS IN THIS GROUP!!

Submit your requests, and what I am going to do is choose 1 or 2 people each week to do a more detailed review for. The reason I'm doing this is because many people have the same issues in their shops, so many can benefit. In each point I hit, I'll mention the person or people who can also benefit from this advice in their shop!

I think this will be more efficient and beneficial to everyone, so let's try it out!!!

Hello! I posted my items for a little over a month and no one is buying. They would click "like" and "favorite". Are they hoping that my items would be free?

Hello! I re-opened my shop at the end of last month after putting it on vacation mode over two years ago. Before closing, I was doing well, getting a good amount of views, and as many sales as I could really keep up with. I was happy. Now I'm getting barely any views and have not had a single sale since re-opening. I'm not sure if it is a seo problem, a picture issue, or simply that I haven't been opened long enough to really be seen yet.

Have had my store for a month and a half and have sold a couple things.  I feel like my stuff is good quality, cute, useful and all that but I feel like I have come to a screeching halt.  I can go several days without a visit to my store and when I do have visits nobody buys..

The shop name is MitchHeysArt, I’ve only just started a couple weeks ago and am still making the artworks I’d like to sell.

Thank you!!

Hi,

I started posting items in my shop a few weeks ago and have got very few bites. People seem to be favoriting items, putting them in their cart and I have at least 20 views a day but no one seems to be purchasing. I have started an Instagram account, am using Etsy Ads, Tags, Seo etc. If you could please review my shop I would be very grateful! https://www.etsy.com/shop/CoatsandPaws?ref=shop_sugg

Hi Tina!

The fact that your shop has been closed for a while will definitely have an impact on your views. If you're not there to be seen, no one will see you. Know what I mean? In the future, if you want to take a hiatus, I suggest that you put that in your Shop Announcement or About, maybe even a little disclaimer in the descriptions - this way people will still be able to view your merch but will also be aware that you're taking time off for whatever reason. Would also be helpful to mention an estimate of when you plan to return - it just gives potential customers a timeline and reassures them that you will, in fact, be back.

The other thing is - work on your tags. I say this all the time. You definitely don't have enough in your titles (you have over 100 characters available), and you should also make your bottom tags to be two-word tags rather than the one-word tags you have now. One word tags will pull like a ridiculous number of results, and it's easy to get lost in all those while adding another word will make the results more specific. People don't typically search for one word anyway, there's usually a combination, so you're much more likely to get results that way.

Thank-you for the advice! I will definitely work on these things.

I actually started out by putting a note in my shop announcements that I would be gone for awhile, but I kept getting custom requests through conversations even though I had turned off the custom orders. So, I ended up putting it into vacation mode with an explanation of why I was closed down, but I planned to return in the future. I honestly did not know when I would be able to get back. So much has changed in the almost three years that I have been gone. It's going to take some getting used to and some work!

Again, thanks for the advice!

Hi there,

So nice to meet you! I wanted to introduce myself. I have 2 shops on etsy: one was opened on 2015 (but first year i new nothing, did nothing and sold nothing). Later I found out, that I need to work more and started doing it. Today I'm pretty on the right path with that shop.
Then I was encouraged to open a shop to sell specifically natural skin care that I make for about 5 or 6 years now. That shop isn't too bad, I had a few sales since the opening in September 2016, BUT I think that I really need some different point of view to my tags, descriptions etc... Of course I'm scared to find out that I need to re-do every listing or somethiing like that, but I may deal with it :)
Sooo. There it is, my shop, called NaturistaSkinCare:

My names Marcy, I'd love a review. I haven't sold anything, have had no shares, 2 potential future sales, and unsure what I'm doing wrong.

I do collages made out of bubble words relating to themes. All items are hand painted. I also do other hand painted items.

My goal is to help others express themselves through my artistic expression, along with companies to advertise by using my artistic expression.

Hi all,

In my opinion, the first thing a handmade buyer looks for is more information about the seller. It helps with building trust. An incomplete about us or no information at all there can really hurt sales.

But on the flip side, it's also overwhelming to write this page. If you're wondering what to include and how to get started, take a look at this article: https://goo.gl/sSkbm8
