I'm Firefly, and I'm new to this whole lapidary thing. It's been something I've wanted to for a very long time, and I'm just now getting started. It's been an absolute pleasure taking a stone that looks like nothing special, applying a little elbow grease, and seeing it begin to turn into something beautiful.
I do have one small problem though. I don't want to work with a lapidary wheel just yet; I really prefer the handheld convenience of my dremel. I know I need to get superfine bits (600, 800, and 1200 grit respectively).
Where in the heck do you guys find these things? I found one shop that has EXACTLY what I need... but they are "on hiatus" until June 16. Hardware stores look at me like I'm nuts. I called Dremel, and they said they don't produce a bit over 200 grit but that there were other company's bits that were compatible... and then wouldn't say where I could get those bits.
