When I first started the blog a long time ago, I used to showcase each team and their shop. Shops would join then leave, or close up altogether. I would get email from customers asking how they could buy the item if the shop was closed. It also hurt the site's rankings in Google because it ended up with a lot of "Broken links" which frequently occurs if a link goes no a place or is no longer found. I have no time to go back through and figure out who is still a member and who is not.

So now the blog has turned into more of a green living idea guide. Different green products and ideas are featured both inside and outside of Etsy to encourage greener living all the way around.

Jessica - Captain (Eco Friendly Freckles) will still post helpful team articles and anything else she deems fit.

I do encourage anyone if they want to have their shop featured or even to talk about being greener to convo me and I will set up interview questions and we can do that. I only ask that you have had tenure with ETSY so I don't end up with more broken links. Even if you have had an old feature you are eligible.

Thanks
Cindy.

Re: Etsy Recyclers Guild Blog

Hi there,

Having just signed up and with a view to my store opening in the next six weeks I agreed to the terms of joining this team. One of which is to have the blog promoted in the shop announcement.
However upon further inspection the blog has not had a post since September and previously to that the most recent post was also three months prior.
As I am going to be launching my own blog as my shop opens which will be active, I would much rather have that promoted than a blog that is not beneficial to my business, as you say full of dead links and will send consumers away from my page where I will not yet be listed.

I hope this is ok as I would really like to be part of a likeminded guild. I wonder if I could be part of this blog and help make it successful again?

Not only could we re-vamp the look of the site so that it is less cluttered and confusing but people from the team could readily submit articles and projects for posts on their passion for recycling and associated subjects. Of course there would need to be a standard of photograph that was overseen but I am basically suggesting it might be more successfull as a collective blog.

What do you think?

Thanks for reading!

Re: Etsy Recyclers Guild Blog

Great ideas Asa-Marie! I am not new to etsy but am making my upcycled spoon jewelry full time now and am looking for different, effective avenues to market my products. I don't know the first thing about starting a blog or even how to showcase my products on a likeminded persons blog ( if that makes sense) and would appreciate the help and guidance in doing so. Thank you and welcome to the group.

Re: Etsy Recyclers Guild Blog

Hey wow! I just looked at your stuff and I can't believe you make this out of spoons! I have always loved the little art neuveau patterns on spoons.

Anyway, I am sure your shop will have great success, you have a great niche.

So I wonder what everyone else thinks? And the captain of this team?

Well I have to say I have read a fair bit and understand the concept s behind blogging and using it as a business structure and marketing tool. God I love marketing! Anyway, fetishes aside, I think that if we were to do the collective blog idea then the following would be a good base structure of operation:

1. Everyone understands the purpose of the blog as a promotional tool to achieve greater success in their business.

2. For it to be successful it must be maintained. I would reccommend daily posts.

3. Think of the blog as a magazine. People in this team should submit articles for entry (These can be: tutorials, factual reports, market or book reviews, anything to do with recycling and upcycling) and there ought to be one editor responsible for the look of the blog and err...well, editing.

4. Everyone who has an active shop gets their shop interview, just like an etsy showcase, only ours is only for recyclers and upcyclers etc. Selected by random number generator or something...

5. I really think that we could all make this blog into a strong success and aim to be the number one blog for handmade, recycled, upcycled and reused craft!

Please let me know what you think and thanks for reading! Of course this is just a suggestion, but a suggestion that I believe in.

Re: Etsy Recyclers Guild Blog

Greetings Asa-Marie!

Your passion, interest, and inspiration for team involvement in the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team is greatly appreciated and very encouraging! I just spoke with fellow Team Leader Andrea of Etsy shop Storybook Artifact (she is also my twin sister), and she and I would be honored to have you join the team as a "Leader" and have you set up as one of our blog authors of the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team blog!

Yes, you are right our team blog hasn't been exceptionally active over the past year as we would like. When viewing our team blog if you click on the tab titled "Crew" located at the far right of the blog sections toolbar, you will see our leadership team. When browsing through all of the recent blog articles you will notice that the two blog authors of our team blog our myself and Cindy Fahnestock-Schafer (known as "Ira Mency" as her blog author pen name) of Etsy shop RetroChalet. Cindy is our former Team Captain and now a Team Leader, and she has greatly helped with our team blog over the years. This past year Cindy and I both have put a lot of focus towards our Etsy shops, personal lives, and other efforts; I have not been able to contribute as many blog articles as I would prefer to our team blog and my personal Eco-Friendly Freckles blog. Asa Marie, we would be so very thankful to have you join as a Team Leader and a fellow blog author on the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team blog. Team Leaders Elizabeth Patel of Lizzie Caye Upcycled Handbags and Andrea Scott of Storybook Artifact are also designated "blog authors" for the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team blog, however they haven't been able to contribute lately.

Asa Marie, I will just need you to send me your email address that you will log in with through blogger to get you set up as a fellow blog author for the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team blog so you can sign in, access, and administer our team blog...I also want to give a shout out here to the rest of the team, let's all be inspired by Asa Marie's motivation, and if any other team members are interested in contributing their own eco-conscious enlightened articles for the team blog please let me know and I'll get you set up!

Asa Marie, I checked out your Etsy shop About Page, your handmade eco-friendly bags are beautiful! I love that you use recycled scraps and that 10% of your proceeds go to charity! You are an absolutely ideal member to have receive a promotion for a Team Leader position and become an active blog author for the Etsy Recyclers Guild Team Blog! I love your ideas for the blog; including: guild member interviews, eco-friendly tutorials, recycle themed book reviews, more! I know that I probably don't need to say this as it looks like you've got this all in mind...***Remember to keep the general theme of all articles around the eco-friendly, eco-conscious, "green", and upcycle/recycle/reclaimed/repurposed topics! Thank you for reaching out Asa Marie! I'm looking forward to the new year of 2015 and to see how our nature-loving team blossoms and flourishes!

Sincerely,
Jessica of Etsy Shop "Eco-Friendly Freckles"
Team Captain of the Etsy Recyclers Guild
