You just need an image in the right size (like your avatar) , you upload it to the site and tell them the web page address it should link to, and the text you'd like it to say when someone hovers over the image.

There are many ad sizes but their small square ads seem to be the most popular, and those are 125 pixels by 125 pixels. Here are all the sizes they have:
