Hello, fellow papermakers! Elena has graciously allowed me to take over the annual paper swap! I’m very excited to be organizing it and I can’t wait to see what papers you all send in! When I asked Elena about her methods, she pointed out a few that popped up, so my goal this year is to make this as smooth as possible for everyone involved! Here’s my game plan:
Each piece of what you submit should be no larger than 8.5x11 inches. Having an 8.5x11 inch limit for sheet sizes will allow me to purchase a stack of 9x12 yellow envelopes from Staples, knowing all participants’ work will fit in. I can then better estimate the shipping costs, so you won’t be overcharged and I won’t be paying out of pocket.
In order to set a solid participation fee that will cover all of the packages, I’ll set a 50 person limit.
I am based in Ohio. So I’m basing my shipping estimates on previous orders I’ve sent out on Etsy. 50 sheets of my paper is about 1.5 pounds. So I used that weight to estimate shipping it to Oregon, which is one of the most expensive places for me to ship domestically. From me to Oregon, we are looking at $11 for postage and the cost of the envelope. For international participants, I will calculate your participation fee on a case-by-case basis using USPS.com, so it will be as close as possible.
Also, as last year, please do include a recipe for your paper. Just type the recipe up in a word document, and copy/paste it as many times as there are participants, then just cut them out to include with each sheet using tape, staple, or paper clip.
Here’s the schedule:
March 1: deadline for entry, must have your fee submitted by this date.
May 1: I must have received your papers by this date (I want to allow PLENTY of time for any international participants to get me their papers.)
June 1: I will ship out the completed packages by this day.
Please reply with your interest in participating to whitedragonpaper@email.com with the subject “Paper Swap 2014.” Make sure to include your name, email, and address I’ll be sending the paper to, including country. Submit entry fees to whitedragonpaper@email.com on Paypal.
