Why do we paint?

I'd like to hear more from many of you. This group is indeed more quiet than some. So let us talk about what we love most! Why do you paint? I have had the pleasure of hearing many answers to this question and to my surprise the answer is often very different from person to person. So tell us here!

Re: Why do we paint?

Great topic Stephanie. Painting is really calming and meditative for me. I enjoy the 'process' and don't worry about the end result so much. I either like something or i don't, either way i have enjoyed the process of painting itself. For me it's about being present in the moment. I try and be present in the moment with alot of things i do, but it is not always easy. With painting i find, it just happens.................. !!! :)

Re: Why do we paint?

I paint because without it I couldn't process the world. I need this time to understand how I feel and then when I am finished I usually understand the situation enough that it is no longer a burden. Painting is a stress relief for me and a time to dream. My mind fills up with so many ideas, its hard to keep track.

Re: Why do we paint?

As a child my favorite activities were crayons, paper, chalk and ink. Painting is my muse. It is a joy from start to finish. Stress disappears and I am a content human being, lucky for my husband and 5 children.

Re: Why do we paint?

I paint for meditative reasons as well. It makes me forget about all the other stresses in my life and everything goes quiet. I feel like I have to paint in order to get all the characters and images out of my head... so I can sleep at night, and also so that I don't go completely insane.

Re: Why do we paint?

I paint because it fills me with joy. I work in several different mediums and each one makes me feel a little different than the other; hard to explain, but it's all good :)

Re: Why do we paint?

What a great question? I paint because I love the creative process. I paint from photographs that I take. It is always so much fun to interpret the scene, or person or animal in my own color, composition and method. I also love to learn, and boy, there is always something more we can learn about painting or creating.

Re: Why do we paint?

How can something energize and calm, be so peaceful and exciting, all at the same time? What a conundrum. Painting is a chemical experience for me and I'm very much emotionally and physically affected. And it's just so darn fun....there's always the 'what next', 'what if' never-ending learning of it all.
