Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well!
It's great to read everyone’s stories and hear about your experiences so far on Etsy. I noticed there are a lot of requests for opinions on shops and thought I’d show an example of how simple (or detailed!) it can be. You don’t have to be an expert to describe what stands out to you about somebody’s shop. Remember, any opinions, thoughts, first reactions etc. are constructive and help everyone learn!
I took a quick glance at AriesCollections where Rashida makes lovely baby headbands and bibs. I had a few ideas, and the two top things that help make sales are Photos, and Tags & Titles, so I’ll talk about both of those.
For my example, I’ll use:
Floral Print Button Flower Headband w/ felt leaves Floral Print Button Flower Headband w/ felt leaves AriesCollections €8.97 EUR

First, I want to show how short and quick a shop critique can be, while still being helpful:
1) Photo
Rashida, the photo looks great!
The photo has bright light
I can see the detail clearly because it’s close up
The background doesn’t distract me from the headband
The baby is super cute!
I was thinking it’d be nice to see the headband from straight on and from the back, as well as from the top. Would be great to put in more photos to show that!
2) Title
Rashida, your title of “Soft Pink Flower headband w/ brown trim” is great because I can really imagine if I were looking for a cute flower headband, that’s something I’d type! Just to get more specific, I’d include the word “baby” before “headband” to be sure it gets the right people.
And that’s it! It can be that simple. Now I’m no baby headband or photography expert either, so just remember, if you aren’t sure of what to say, go with your instinct!. Why doesn't everyone au pair, taking the person that wrote just after you and exchange opinions between the two of you?
Looking forward to seeing you guys getting your thoughts out here and helping each other.
Best,
Francesca
P.S. Below I’m also including a more detailed explanation of how I thought of those things, if you are interested.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Photos
The points I noticed about how great the photo looks came to me from reading this blog post: www.etsy.com/blog/en/2009/shop-makeover-series-feature-friendly-pho...
My suggestion to include the headband from different angles is because buyers can only get an *idea* of how your headband truly looks - so show off as much as you can! Always use all 5 photo slots to show different angles.
2) Tags & Titles:
For tags and titles, the easiest thing is to just put yourself in the buyer’s shoes: think of what you might search for if you were trying to buy that specific item. If you find yourself getting stuck on ideas, I learned a lot from this post: www.etsy.com/blog/en/2012/how-to-get-found-in-search/
Tags (which you can see at the bottom of the page) work in much the same way as titles. The ones Rashida is currently using help describe the headband, but I suggest getting more specific with phrases. Etsy uses phrases to help figure out what your items are when buyers are searching. So, for example, instead of “headbands” (which might appear in a search like “mens military headbands”) you could try “pink baby headband.” A couple other ideas:
pink headband for toddler
toddler headband
baby headband

Again, remember that you don’t need to get this detailed when offering your thoughts to others! Shop critiquing is all about sharing your precious opinions and encouraging others to do the same with you.
