Hello and welcome to your Etsy Team!

We’d like to introduce you to a group of sellers just like you.
In this team you can come together to ask for advice, exchange tips and talk about what it’s like being a seller. Teams like this are one of the best places for you to share, learn and grow in a friendly place, for as long as you’re an Etsy seller.

To start, introduce yourself and your shop! Then, get to know the other members by helping with what we call a "Shop Review" or “Shop Critique”:

- Pick a shop (maybe the person that wrote just before you!)
- Share with the shop owner your opinions, ideas on what is working well and what could be improved
- Now ask to have someone review your shop
- Once you have tried some things, share anything you learned with the team

Remember that there is no right or wrong when reviewing a shop. All you need to do is offer your thoughts and opinions. If you are not sure where to start, try our:

*https://www.etsy.com/blog/en/files/2013/03/ShopCritiqueWorksheet_DigitalDownload1.pdf

And don’t forget to have fun meeting other members of Etsy!

Cheers,
Jeff, Patricia, Marta, Martijn & Francesca

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well!

It's great to read everyone’s stories and hear about your experiences so far on Etsy. I noticed there are a lot of requests for opinions on shops and thought I’d show an example of how simple (or detailed!) it can be. You don’t have to be an expert to describe what stands out to you about somebody’s shop. Remember, any opinions, thoughts, first reactions etc. are constructive and help everyone learn!

I took a quick glance at AriesCollections where Rashida makes lovely baby headbands and bibs. I had a few ideas, and the two top things that help make sales are Photos, and Tags & Titles, so I’ll talk about both of those.

For my example, I’ll use:
Floral Print Button Flower Headband w/ felt leaves Floral Print Button Flower Headband w/ felt leaves AriesCollections €8.97 EUR
Favorite

First, I want to show how short and quick a shop critique can be, while still being helpful:

1) Photo
Rashida, the photo looks great!

The photo has bright light
I can see the detail clearly because it’s close up
The background doesn’t distract me from the headband
The baby is super cute!

I was thinking it’d be nice to see the headband from straight on and from the back, as well as from the top. Would be great to put in more photos to show that!

2) Title
Rashida, your title of “Soft Pink Flower headband w/ brown trim” is great because I can really imagine if I were looking for a cute flower headband, that’s something I’d type! Just to get more specific, I’d include the word “baby” before “headband” to be sure it gets the right people.

And that’s it! It can be that simple. Now I’m no baby headband or photography expert either, so just remember, if you aren’t sure of what to say, go with your instinct!. Why doesn't everyone au pair, taking the person that wrote just after you and exchange opinions between the two of you?

Looking forward to seeing you guys getting your thoughts out here and helping each other.

Best,
Francesca

P.S. Below I’m also including a more detailed explanation of how I thought of those things, if you are interested.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Photos
The points I noticed about how great the photo looks came to me from reading this blog post: www.etsy.com/blog/en/2009/shop-makeover-series-feature-friendly-pho...

My suggestion to include the headband from different angles is because buyers can only get an *idea* of how your headband truly looks - so show off as much as you can! Always use all 5 photo slots to show different angles.

2) Tags & Titles:
For tags and titles, the easiest thing is to just put yourself in the buyer’s shoes: think of what you might search for if you were trying to buy that specific item. If you find yourself getting stuck on ideas, I learned a lot from this post: www.etsy.com/blog/en/2012/how-to-get-found-in-search/

Tags (which you can see at the bottom of the page) work in much the same way as titles. The ones Rashida is currently using help describe the headband, but I suggest getting more specific with phrases. Etsy uses phrases to help figure out what your items are when buyers are searching. So, for example, instead of “headbands” (which might appear in a search like “mens military headbands”) you could try “pink baby headband.” A couple other ideas:
pink headband for toddler
toddler headband
baby headband
pink headband

Again, remember that you don’t need to get this detailed when offering your thoughts to others! Shop critiquing is all about sharing your precious opinions and encouraging others to do the same with you.

Good morning!
After 15+ years of stress and pressure I just quit my day job. I'm trying a couple of new ventures and one that I'm excited about is Esty. I've played with it (etsy) a little the last year, but never had the time to put into it to make it go. Well now I have plenty of time and energy. I have just started to stock my store with my photographs. I have many, many more. I'm slowly working on photos from the past years in photoshop and getting them ready to sell on Etsy.
Have a good weekend!

Hi, my name is Olga, I am 51 and I am Russian but live in Sweden now.
Since I moved to Sweden to my husband and left busy life with my hair extension shop I have much time for my interests. I opened up materials as copper wire and polymer clay for creating things and I really really love and enjoy working with these materials.
Most of my things are originally designed and all of them are handmade by me. Sometimes I get inspiration from other artists but I never copy. Inspired by others I add my own details, materials and of course my love and my spirit to it.
I am new on etsy and have to learn much for successful sales. I will be glad to get any advices and critics from all team members.
Good luck to everybody!

Hello, my name is Richard, and I just love working with wood - making all the items myself. I've been selling things through craft fairs and some retail outlets for quite a few years, but opening an online shop on Etsy is a completely new experience, and very exciting!
I'd welcome any advice or suggestions about my Etsy shop - I'm keen to improve the presentation and range of things I make, and really make a success of it. Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thank you.

Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm trying to use Etsy to sell some of my hand painted bags, jackets and shoes.
I wanted to do some Goth / steampunk type designs that I've always wanted but never seen in the shops before.
I'd welcome any feedback on my items, it's my first time trying to sell anything so I've no idea if I'm doing the right thing!

Hi! I'm Claire and I'm a textile artist. I've just opened my Etsy shop and realised what a lot there is to do to get it looking professional. I'm just working on the policies section now. I find doing all these things a bit tedious, but realise that it is important to get them in place! I started my shop with a few cards and have since added a book wrap (I'm just finishing some more to list) and a piece of wall art. I think that I really need to do is focus on understanding what does and doesn't sell and concentrate on what is likely to be more successful. But it seems to be a minefield and all a bit daunting. So any help from other sellers will be much appreciated. It's good to be among a group of people in a similar situation as I am sure we will all benefit!

Hi again....just been looking at a couple of shops...the UK ones to start with. I have to say, Richard, that not only are your pieces stunning, but I love the way you tell the story of each and even go as far as to say where the wood is from. Really appealing shop I thought...I found plenty to learn from here.....good luck...you deserve it!

Hi, my name is Leah and I have had an etsy shop open for a few years. I work full time but love to craft. I have not found a particular niche yet but love crafting and lately, sewing. I would like to leave work and open a business but I cannot afford to make that move until I hone in what I want to make. I started my shop with cards and jewelry and have moved to sewing accents and signs. My biggest issue is lack of shop traffic. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I agree Leah...I'm in a similar situation. Started with cards as they are easy and don't need a lot of investment to make but I need to find a niche and preferably something that is different! I see that there are 13m items on sale on Etsy so I too am interested in how to increase traffic to my site (apart from finding more unique items to make)

Hi, I'm Miltos. I'm 24, a graphic designer and I love to have my schedule tight. I'm studying on an MA program and have a silk screen printing studio on the side. I joined Etsy not too long ago and still haven't found the time to put too mush effort on it. My shop is still slightly empty but it's about to stock up soon. I sell only hand made original prints.
Any opinions appreciated!

Loved reading about everyone's shops and stories!

I'm Lizzy and I've just started doing markets casually in Sydney, Australia selling a few different upcycled and vintage goods. Some of my items include vinyl record fascinators, crochet cushions and knitting needle bracelets. I joined Etsy to try and target a more suitable niche market and I love it!!

I hope to further develop my DIY skills through Etsy, find a niche for myself and expand my products. I'm busy with a day job but hope to continue falling down the Etsy rabbit hole.

My name is Rashida, and I've been creating children's accessories for the last two years. I have been selling locally, but now want to start selling via internet via website. That's why I chose Etsy. Etsy has great advice for making your shop better, and I've taken in a lot of information. I would love if you guys could critique my shop and let me know what I can improve on.

Thanks

Hi I'm Donna. I started my Etsy shop to sell these lovely little wooden tags which are so versitile. i use material such as paint, patterned paper, cup cake cases and fabric and have recently started putting my own drawings on them. Although I have always loved drawing I never felt my work was good enough to be sold in a shop. But It seems that people like what I've done so I'm hoping to improve my shop and get a lot more sales. I find it slightly intimidating and exciting at the same time to be sharing a platform with so many talented artist/crafters/photographers with their amazing shops! I'd be grateful for some feedback. Thanks

Hello - I'm really new to this although I've been a browser of Etsy for a couple of years...finally taken the plunge and decided to go for it and open a shop. Bear with me though as I'm still building it (no items yet!) as I'm still getting my head around what I need to do etc! Feel a little overwhelmed by it but I'm sure I'll get there!
One thing I've been pondering is all the extra Etsy Apps that people use...does anyone have any thoughts on which are best? or just which (if any) do you use?

Hiya, I'm Victoria. I'm based in the UK, and very quiet usually. :) I make generally cheap jewellery, so far mostly macramé and beads, but I'm always learning and my current projects are wire wrapping and chainmaille. I'm hoping to be able to set up a great shop and I'm always thinking and tinkering with what I've put up so far.
Hope to get to know some of you better.

Hi everyone...has anyone tried using the Etsy search ads? I tried to look to see what it was all about but the video won't play for me. I get the message "There is a problem with playback".

So I was wondering whether anyone had tried these and what their experience is? I'm struggling to think how I can get more visitors to my site (although I have to make some more things first!).

Thanks!

Hi, my name is Inkeri and I'm based in Finland. I only just started making jewelry this year, and Etsy seemed like an easy option for an online shop. So far no sales -- and I feel like despite the internet, it's hard for me to reach my customers, as the user base is mainly in the US. However, I've been very happy with the site.

I make mainly glass bead and copper wire jewelry, with affordable prices and simple designs. I would like to learn to work with silver, but as of now I'm still practicing. :) I would love to have some critique of my shop and also give my five cents for someone else. Perhaps a different thread for critique?
