I've been measuring my scarf by holding it up with my hand and lining up a measuring tape on it, because I've read that somewhere. But when I lay it flat on the floor, its 4 inches smaller. So what is the best way?
You can lay it flat and measure, keeping in mind that it will be longer when it is around your neck. I always try it on....or knit it almost as long as I am tall(5'5")!! I hope this is helpful!!
Measure knits as rest and laying flat, and for exact measurements after blocking, with a scarf it shouldn't be a hugh deal, but if doing a sweater or other clothing a couple of inches can add up.
