hell is full of crying babies...

my baby has been crying for an hour straight. i'm not sure how much longer i can take it! i've tried everything! he is 1 and he just learned the word cookie. he said cookie, and started reaching for nonexistent cookies. i said we don't have any, and he hasn't stopped screaming since.

Teething? ear aches?

Dunno if there's a level of tylenol or ibuprofen to give to a baby just in case it's one of those. I've forgotten since it was so long ago! I just remember -- just no aspirin (Reyes syndrome).

he wants a cookie, but we don't have any. he's throwing a tantrum, because he wants a cookie. crackers are also cookies, but we don't have any of those either.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

LOL @ "stops crying to say cookie" I feel for you. stick it out, tho, and hopefully he'll figure out that it's not working!

Also, maybe teach him the sign for cookie? (the letter C on the palm, I think). That would give him something to do with his hands while he's crying!!!

Sign language is great, BTW, for verbal expression. I've emphatically signed "N" "O" across an entire store and had it work, when my son was little! No yelling involved at all. Just the visual.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

LOL! it has stopped now. YAY! i just needed to vent. that is the first actual communication that has gotten him something he wanted. thanks grammie! every time he says cookie to my mother in law he gets a cracker, gram cracker or a cookie. so he does not understand when he said cookie and he got nothing. that was unacceptable to him! alas the tantrum has passed and i no longer feel like throwing myself on the floor and screaming too.

lol, I have actually pictured that when my daughter was younger. And yes, grandparents are great at that. I think they see it as some form of revenge for how we all acted as children that we don't remember or something... >:)

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

Awwwww...Gawd, I remeber those days! And I so feel for you! My 2 1/2 year old red headed wild Love was visiting the other night insisting on 'french fries, Mimi!" He opened and closed the fridge, the cabinets, looked in the dog food bags, all the while insisting louder and louder 'I want french fries'...
I finally took out the dill pickle spears, sliced them into fry shapes, plopped 'em in a bowl and he smiled broadly....
"green french fries, Mimi" :)

Moral of the story is...my Mama used to use jar lids to punch 'cookie' shapes out of slices of bread or toast...Just in case you ever get desperate again:)

And barking dogs. We have a dog that barks at the kids outside playing, a bird flying by a leaf that rustles, hell she probably hears and sees every little bug too and barks at that. Yesterday I thought I was going to lose my mind with her incessant noise.

artinspiredlife: Glad he finally gave up, that noise is like nails on a chalk board. Hope he stays happy for the rest of the day

And whining toddlers. Don't forget whining toddlers! Sorry. You don't want to hear that your screaming baby will someday become a whining toddler. Besides, just because my son was a whiner doesn't mean your baby will be a whiner. My daughter was a tantrum thrower, but she never whined. Not sure which is worse...

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

gosh, i should strive to be a better person, so i won't end up in a place with crying babies, whining toddlers, and barking dogs, LOL!

i like the bread idea for cookies, but my boy is a food shover, he crams all of whatever is in his hand into his mouth at once, so we stay away from bread for now.

my husband returned from the grocery store with all kinds of cookies, crackers, cheese-its, gram crackers, etc. he knew ben was crying for cookies, but he had no idea how long it lasted!

oh, and trust me i know about the whining toddlers too. my daughter is 4, and she's slightly getting past that stage. she still has her moments though.

i'm in the midst of teaching ben communication skills, and sydney manners. we are trying to get sydney to ask for things in another way than "JUICE! I WANT JUICE! THIRSTY, THIRSTY!" and ben another way than "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" it is quite the challenge! i need to vent from time to time. :) thanks for listening.

-----------------------------------------------
Get a spray bottle of water, when the dog barks, spray water into the face. Takes a few times but they learn that barking results in a wet face - usually they stop unnecessary barking. Be sure that you only do this when there is no reason for them to bark - no threat.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

LILGIRLCA... I don't think that would work with her, she chases the hose when I'm trying to water my garden and the other night she came into the bathroom while I was giving my youngest a bath and she started putting her face in the water and blowing bubbles, she must have done it for a good 5 minutes straight. My husband is always saying that she thinks she's part human, I'm beginnig to agree.

0namesleft ... Annoying as hell, isn't it.

I go out there and yell at her everytime she starts up and that seems to work, but damn I'm sick of having to go out to her every five minutes.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

AHHH for a barking dog or crying child I would give a smile. I am alone all day (unless I am at the shop making chocolate) I have no grandchild to comfort..and my dog sleeps all day unless she is eating. I miss the connections of sound... it is life...be it of complaint or joy.
Keep the cookies in stock and enjoy the rewards of your baby's smiles.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

Crying babies..Ohhhhh the memories.. but have to admit I'm glad that part is over, hate to admit it but adult kids still whine and dogs will always bark.. and life goes on..hahahaha scary but true..
My pediatrician once told me, if all is well and they are not ill, have a clean diaper, and are just whining to hear themselves whine and driving you crazy..let them.. (whine that is) go lock yourself in the bathroom, take a shower and bring music to drown out the noise.. it worked sometimes but I still hurried up and checked on them.. Mothers...gotta love em..
Kids gotta love them too..
And dogs.. awwwww yep on the love list.

in an hour you could have made a batch of cookies.lol

My grandson is visiting (he's almost 2)...my husband jokingly said at breakfast today as he passed me the waffles in front of Josh 'nope, none for you'....and Josh just burst into tears..apparently his comprehension is a lot better than mean ole grandpa thought! lol I think Grandpa felt more than a little bad. (good!)

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

I wonder what would happen if you DID just fall onto the floor with your child screaming? lol would if he would stop and stare to see what was the big fuss about lol. I've always wanted to do that when I see my nephew crying just to see what he would make of it. haha.

Re: hell is full of crying babies...

Sometimes I wish my kids would again cry at me for something. Instead I can't get them to remove their faces and hands from the texting devices.

Enjoy every minute! :)

I used to cry back at them too. And sometimes roll around on the floor along side of them. Sometimes it turned a tantrum into a laughing fit.

ps... Now I want a cookie ;)
