Mobile Credit Card and ATH payment processing

Hi everyone,
I've been investigating options for taking credit card and ATH payments while we are out selling at art fairs, etc.
The company that is most popular in the US, called Square, unfortunately does not cover PR or other US territories. If you are totally unfamiliar with this type of service, basically it is a small device that attaches to your phone or ipad and allows you to take a customers credit card or ath payment right in your booth.
There is one company here that provides the service: Evertec
Here is the basic information: You need a merchant account with Banco Popular. The initial cost of the device is $130. there is a $17. monthly charge and a 2.5% +15 cent transaction fee. The device works only with apple phones or ipads. If you do enough selling in the street and want to be able to accept credit card payments, the Evertec sales rep is Rodolfo Nazario 787-579-4512

PS, I am still working on this, there may be another, less expensive way using Paypal. I will post again when I have more information. If anyone has other information on this topic, please post about it! Thank you. :) - marga

I can speak about the Paypal thing -- not available at all in US Territories -- I went through a few people on the phone at Paypal - to no avail -- they have plans to make it happen 'in the future' - but nothing anytime soon. I'd love to have the little phone plug-in thing to take credit cards at markets and fests. The best solution I have found yet is to send that person a Paypal invoice (if they use Paypal) and they can pay the invoice right there on their phone. Paypal also has a thing where people can pay you by your mobile phone number attached to your account - I have not used it yet, but am signed up for it and it says it's supposed to work in the territories -

There is another company called Pro-Pay that may be an alternative. I used pro-pay a while back while doing BeautiControl and they seemed to work okay. I am not sure about the reader, but I do know that people can accept credit cards at events.

Yes propay is available and they will send you the reader for about $12.00 with the plan. Etsy now has one as well available to all Etsy sellers that is sync with the etsy account and it is free ... here you can get more info:

Hi Everyone, thank you so much for your responses and information! I am definitely going to investigate Propay. Also a friend just told me about another company called Paytechco. I'll post again when I have more information about it.

I can say that you will need to pay for the service on Propay as I had just received my reader which I had to pay for unlike Etsy that is free.

Re: Mobile Credit Card and ATH payment processing

I wonder if the etsy reader will work here... I understood from paypal that because our bank laws are different than the continental US, they decided not to offer services. I just drove past the office for pay tech co, its on route 20 in guaynabo. I havent had time to investigate their services yet though. Ill try and put together a comparison as soon as possible.
