Summer Time Selling Tips

It's the time of year where school is out and people are vacationing. This means sales can go either way.... Up or Down. You never know who is bored with nothing to do and is surfing Etsy pages and who is out and about with on-line shopping habits on the back burner.

There are many ways to help yourself and one another promote your shop.

1. If you haven't started a Facebook Page for your shop, try it out. It may take some time to throw together, but it's a great way to keep people updated when you are making something new, are vending at an event, or are having a new discount code!

2. Make a treasury! I know it seems weird to make a treasury featuring your own items, but it's a great way to get noticed. Let's say you make a treasury featuring one of your items and use the other 15 spots with things on other seller's shop, that is already 15 people who can see something in your shop. Imagine if even 3 of those people share the link on facebook or twitter.... that opens up a whole new audience that may not have heard of your shop before!

3. Take advantage of people's offers to make a blog post on your shop! It will be the best free publicity you can get!

4. Create a Twitter account! It is a great way to spread the word and you will be surprised at how many people will find and add your page! Plus, it makes your views go through the roof!

5. Stay positive! Don't give up! I know what it is like to be your own worst enemy and thinking no one will buy anything in your shop. There were months in the beginning where I only had 2 sale, but now I have them every week and I have gained a large client base in Australia! In fact, this month I have already shipped out packages to 4 different addressed in Aussieland!

I created my Etsy page in November of 2010 and started listing items the following month. Since then I have vended at 3 events, have just hit 80 sales, have been in a few blog posts, have my items in a fashion show in Australia, and have my items in 2 shops in Baltimore! Remember, sometimes the best opportunities aren't found, but made!

I hope everyone is having a great summer!
