Word Verification

Please consider turning OFF the Word Verification on your blogs. This step is very annoying and keeps people from commenting on your blog.

Blogger now has a spam filter that keeps spam comments from being posted on your blog. I have mine sent to my email to verify they were sent to the spam folder. I've only had 1 or 2 get through in the last 6 months.

The point of writing a blog is to get people to read...and connect. If you put barriers in front of them to comment on your blog, they won't take the time to connect with you.

Thanks for reading and considering :)

Re: Word Verification

I second that emotion, Edi. I took mine down a few months ago, and I very rarely have any spam pop up. Word verification just isn't necessary.

Re: Word Verification

I'm so glad you both agree :)
I hope others will see this and consider removing theirs.

Re: Word Verification

Blogger users do not really need it, true. However, for those who host their own site, the amount of spam comments is very high.

I have to moderate 5-10 comments per day on my hosted blog, and none of them are legit, What is worse is that The spammers post them on older articles, hoping you will miss it.

The purpose is to put content out there on your blog so that they will get referrals, and look more relevant in searches.

It is annoying to have to type "BEIb3r GraNf67" just to say "great post" but especially within other team members blogs, I want to continue everyone to comment anyway. It is not a rule, just nice to have.

If you have a blogger account which is monitored for spam already, Consider removing the Capcha and other security, and see if your comments go up!

Re: Word Verification

I agree, I got rid of it awhile ago, it's so annoying. No spam whatsoever.

Re: Word Verification

It is annoying... I just left a message on the new blog and it took me 2 tries to type the correct work as the letters were all mashed together.. then it is a nightmare to play the sound.. I had no idea what I was supposed to type then.

Re: Word Verification

My blog for my "day job" business is through wordpress and it gets so bombarded with spam that I must authorize each post to insure nothing gets past the "filter".

Based on this thread I turned WV off for my blogger hosted blog. I'll have a really good point of comparison between the two blog platforms.
