OpenID vs Name/URL option

I have recently moved my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and started using a hosting service for my blog. After doing this I realized I was no longer able to use Wordpress or OpenID to post a comment and essentially can only use the Name/URL option if the blog owner allows this.

I have two questions: is there a reason why someone wouldn't enable Name/URL option? Additionally am I just missing the boat on how to post a comment via OpenID?

Re: OpenID vs Name/URL option

I'm in the same boat - my comments section is a mess! I think some people don't enable the Name/URL option because of spam, but I'm not totally sure. I still get a ton of spam and I've switched up my options several times. You should be able to see more of what is available if you are familiar with the comment section of your dashboard. I've also heard of some people who download plugins to help get around some of the comment hubbaloo, but I'm not sure what they are using or if they work.

Re: OpenID vs Name/URL option

I get some spam but I hold for moderation anyway. I can post as my google+ but it doesn't help traffic find my blog which is kind of the point of the whole thing. lol

Well I have decided to only post on blogs that allow Name/URL so I can post as my blog. Although I will continue to read the others and wish they would let me post! :)
