I am wondering whether it is still important to blog......what do you think?

Given the fact that we have Facebook, Twitter and more......

is it still essential to blog?


(i haven't stopped blogging, but blog less frequently in the past few months) I spend a lot of time on Facebook and Twitter now.

What are your opinions about this?

Sometimes I wonder if Facebook, with all its Apps, is going to replace blogging for many.

I do not think I would use the word essential.

I do not think blogging is essential to running a business, but it certainly adds to it. I do however think it is essential for sharing creativity and getting a certain message out.

Personally, I use Facebook and Twitter to promote my blog, not in place of it.

For me, blogging is fun. It is a public creative outlet that I really love sharing. I love the blogging world and what it has to offer.

I personally think blogging will stay what do I know though haha But many out there do like blogging. And I have some following on the blog that aren't following on facebook and vice versa....Not that I have an overly huge following on either but I've noticed it lately, so just saying =)

I have both the blog and the FaceBook page, and find they serve different purposes. I use the blog for longer musings, tutorials, and lots of pictures together. The FaceBook page lends itself more to one or two liners, with an easy informal back and forth in the comments. There is some crossover in my audience for the two venues, but surprisingly little. Folks seem to prefer one or the other, so I do both.

I don't like facebook and prefer to read blogs. I love tutorials and recipes. I rather follow a blog than someone on twitter or facebook but thats just me.

I am going to mark this thread because many of the comments make sense to me.

I find that a lot of folk who I interact with on Twitter, are also Facebook users.

I think that whichever one you use the most is the most useful. There's no point in having a blog if you don't like blogging because it will be boring. There's no point in trying to promote yourself on Twitter if you don't like it because if you do nothing but promote yourself people will ignore you. Ditto Facebook.

I think it probably depends on how many people you want to reach.

Some people prefer facebook. Some people prefer twitter. Some people prefer to read blogs.

Why cut off a portion of those who might be interested in what you have to say?

I also see FB and Twitter more of an "advertising" platform. Like a magazine has ads.... then it has articles. The blog is the articles.
