How effective is Google Friend Connect?

Google Friend Connect is undoubtedly one of the most popular ways to follow a blog. I have seen blogs with more than 500 followers and hardly a comment or two on a post, whereas there are others, that have less than 100 followers but maintain a lively discussion. So, that got me wondering, as a follower how often do you check the blogs you are following and how often do you comment on them?

I use my google reader a few times a week. I think comments have more to do with the blogging it's self then how many people read it. Some very famous blogs have a mere few comments and some lesser know have tons. Most well known bloggers don't have the time to comment back - which increases comments for me OR people feel intimidated. But if I check my feed quite a few come from GooGle readers. Smaller blogger are trying to build an audience so they encourage more of a conversation IMHO!
