Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

We all have blogs, but how often does everyone comment on each others' blog posts? What commenting tools do you like to put on your blog (to help moderate your blog posts) vs. what kind of commenting do you like or dislike when you comment on another blog.

Me:
I used self-hosted Wordpress blog with Disqus for my commenting. I want as few obstacles in the way of someone commenting as possible. If I have to jump through hoops on a blog, I will give up and not comment.

I see so many different ways to comment on many blogs here, so I was wondering.

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

Hi Maureen!

There's a few things that keep me from commenting:

word verification on Blogger blogs - they are getting more and more difficult to read!
blogs that require a log-in, as I've seen on some WP blogs

Off to check out your blog now :)

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

I hope more people comment. I would love to learn more about what platforms everyone uses, and why. What tools or plugins you use. How you promote yourself, etc. It is great that we keep looking and stumbling each other's blogs, but if our blogs are not working well, how do we grow past the team?

I would love to know more about what everyone does and how they do it! Do people ever talk about that here? Or am I in the wrong place.

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

I use Blogger and they are very good at catching spam before it goes live - there's been only one that's gotten through in the last few months. Anyone can comment, word verification is off and I've set it that I only have to approve comments that are on posts older than 21 days.

Disqus used to annoy me when trying to leaving comments, but I see they offer a "I'd rather post as a guest" option now.

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

Great post! We just started a WordPress blog and have yet to choose a moderating tool. What are the benefits to choosing a moderating tool in the first place?

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

Some people use nothing, and get lots of spam. Some people use a captcha, and lose followers and/or posts if it is too hard to read.

The challenge is to allow posts, have a modicum of control over trolls, spammers, and inflammatory posts. There are some good articles about the benefits of moderating and different ways to go.

I opted to allow limited restrictions, and keep an eye on spammers (who eventually will show up on all blogs). Disqus is a popular tool (and works on wordpress, among others), does a small bit of filtering and offers some methods of income with clickable ad content.

I comment on blogs and find when there are too many blocks, and see so many commenting systems.

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

My blog is still fairly new and I haven't had any trouble with spammers yet (*knocks on wood*). I use blogger too (http://wildflowercompany.blogspot.com) l but I have to admit, if I'm trying to comment on a blog and I have to register or sign up, I usually just give up. Partly because its too much work, but also because there is always that fear that registering will lead to a bunch of emails that I don't want.

Other than that, I don't really know much about platform options for commenting.

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

The other reason I use Disqus is it is way to generate income. I dont want to slow anyone down, and Disqus is free. I am not associated with them except I chose to use this on m blog. I earned 24 whole cents one day! Woo-Hoo! But seriously there are lots of tools to generate revenue on a blog, and this COULD be one.

But my blog is very young (about a month) and have had some traction already..but all very little and very low.

I cannot find the article that helped me decide to use Disqus.
Here is a semi-pro blog post, from an SEO ad online marketing expert. Though he is lukeward on Disqus, he uses it on his blog.

AND, like I said you can earn revenue from it!

Re: Favorite Blog commenting / moderating tools?

I use blogger. I wanted to move to wordpress.org, I've not switched for fear of losing links, seo, etc. I hate captcha as I have a hard time seeing the letters and I don't want the frustration of having to keep trying. I'm only going to try a couple of times, maybe., then I bail.
