DSLR Camera & Photoshop?

I need some suggestions for a dslr camera please :) I have no idea where to start. I have been all over the web and there is so much information it's overwhelming. I need the camera for my etsy shop, blog, and family photos.

I also want to get photoshop. Which version do you have? I have no clue there either!

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks,

Liz

Re: DSLR Camera & Photoshop?

HI Liz,

I would either get a Canon Rebel or a Nikon D40, both are entry level DSLR's. The lens is actually more important than the camera body for taking a great photo, so I would invest in a great lens. I take photos for my blog and for my shop and you can check out my photos here: www.loveatfirstblush.blogspot.com

For Photoshop, I recommend buying the latest version.

I hope that helps!

Re: DSLR Camera & Photoshop?

Well I used a point and shoot Canon for most of my photos in this shop, but I do use a Canon Rebel XT and Canon Rebel T1i for some of the other shops/projects I'm involved in. If you want to start small you can find a good used XT kit on eBay for around $300. I highly recommend the 50mm f/ 1.8 lens for around $100 - I have about 7 lenses and it is by far my favorite. You can also buy macro attachments for cheap on Amazon that screw on to the end of your lens.

As far as photoshop goes, I use both cs3 and cs5. I disagree that you need the latest version (cs5). I think if all you want it for is editing photos and making some graphics cs3, or even Photoshop Elements, will do just great. Some of my friends just use Picasa and Picnik to edit their photos using free tools.

The best way to go about it is to figure out what kind of budget you have for them and go from there, because you really can do a lot with just basic tools.

Yes, my first digital camera was a Canon Rebel. It's a great starter camera to learn on!

Re: DSLR Camera & Photoshop?

my first started was a nikon D40 and it was amazing. I got it cheap on Ebay, bought a nice lens and taught myself how to shoot on manual.

I would discourage you from getting a Point and shoot because new they are close to the same price and way less capabilities.
