Could someone explain giveaways?

I'm fairly new to blogging and I see many blogs that feature giveaways. I guess I'm dense but I for the life of me don't get the in's and out's of the whole thing. Inquiring minds want to know...in excruciating detail please :-) Thanks, Karen

Okay. Well. Excrutiating detail? First the post is written up about the giveaway. Take a look here for my latest giveaway:

After I write up the post about the giveaway I promote it. There are a couple blogs that are great for promoting that I recently find.
Then people comment on it.
After the giveaway closes I pick a winner and then send the winners contact info to the seller.
Does that cover everything?
