Best Practices for giveaways?

Hi everyone! I just joined :)

I just started my first giveaway (for my other shop) and it's so exciting to watch people follow (and I LOVE seeing all the nice comments they leave when they are reposting my image!)

I was just thinking maybe we could have a "best practices" for giveaways to make them effective. I know this is probably cheating, I jump started my giveaway with a paid promo for $40 because I'm new to IG, but I'm curious to see how it goes. So far in under 8 hours I've gone from 37 to 93 so that's pretty good! I'm going to run my giveaway for a week but I'm wondering if that's too long?

So - how long do you guys run yours for? Are there any special ways that you hashtag yours besides #giveaways? Is it kosher to post about it once a day?

I've also wondered this.... I just started using my Instagram from promoting my business. @teamkrabs

I would love to do a group give away. Looking for the best way to get followers.

One thing that's interesting... I'm noticing that a lot of my new followers are great potential collaborators for group giveaways so that might be a good way of identifying people to work with. So far I'm up almost 100 likes from 37 to 132.

we've done giveaways on IG but never paid. we cross-promote with FB. and right now we have a giveaway with a blogger who is promoting us and then we drop ship. she's got a two-week run on hers but we usually keep ours short and sweet. lately, we've been giving away to more than one name because we have a lot of new prototype product that we're trying out… but that decision to name more came about twice just recently when we had such great responses on our FB posts.
