My favorite children's stories are:

Borrowers series
anything by Dr. Seuss

The Hobbit
Coraline
anything by Hans Christian Anderson
Paddington books

I always liked magic and talking animals.

Re: Looking for ideas for my books

I was a morbid child, but I adored A Series of Unfortunate Events and books like The Giver.
Roald Dahl and Jerry Spinelli were always great too (Star Girl and Maniac Magee were my two favorites of his).
When I was really young, just learning to read? Dinosaurs, sharks, and cats. I would read anything featuring one of those.

Re: Looking for ideas for my books

The Bronte's wrote and created little miniature books when they were children, writing in tiny handwriting so their father couldn't read them!

It would be cool to have a miniature book made for them.

Re: Looking for ideas for my books

You know, I just found out about the sequel, apparently there are three books set in that universe all together. I'm planning on reading them over the summer.

Re: Looking for ideas for my books

I loved The Giver, just read it again recently. I had no idea there was a sequel! I'll have to check it out. I also loved Madeline L'Engle and Roald Dahl.

Re: Looking for ideas for my books

My all-time favorite author of children's books is Erik Carle. Some of my favorites were The Very Hungry Caterpillar (1969), The Mixed-Up Chameleon (1975), and Draw Me a Star (1992).
UnicornJewels, you may like:
Eric Carle’s Treasury of Classic Stories for Children, 1988
A delightfully illustrated retelling of 22 favorite folktales, fairytales, and fables that every child should know. Retold from the works of Aesop, Hans Christian Andersen, and the Brothers Grimm.
The story telling is great, but I admit I am partial to the unique artwork in his books.
